The UPS guy just cam and dropped off 2 new knives- one's a G-10 Byrd and I'll discuss that in the appropriate forum (in short, it's beyond amazing for the price) and my new Buck Strider 880 SP (paid $120 for it) I've had the mini for a couple years and love it, thought it might be cool if it were a little bigger. I thought the mini was a beast...but the 880 is not a little bigger than the mini. It is a hell of a lot bigger. It is enormous. My first thought when I got it was: "Oh my God I'm going to be arrested if I carry this thing. Oh my God I have to carry this thing, Oh my God I'm going to be arrested." A longtime collector of all brands of sharp things, it's not very often that I am so affected when I get a new knife. What a monster. You could club a seal with the thing with the blade closed. You could club a water buffalo to death and never have to open it. There is nothing specific about it that looks overly-tactical or aggressive, conservative blade shape, nothing goofy or pointy sticking off of it, but the overall effect is somehow terrifying. This is the Godzilla of (affordable) pocket knives.
I've been hearing rumors that the Buck-Strider collab may be over. Is this true? If so, it's a real tragedy because these are amazing knives. It's pretty darn close to a full-boat Strider and costs a whole lot less. I'm sure people have been freaking out about this knife on this forum before but I just had to say it. If you don't have one of these already, go buy one now. Seriously.
