Can anyone tell me what is the best way to field strip the buck/strider 882/889 with the rivets? I can't get those things off and I don't want to drill
them off because I still want a usable knife. The reason I'm trying to filed strip it is to grind the liner lock and oil up the washers.

The 882 has Torx screws. Easy to take apart.
The 889 rivets are another deal all together.

But, If ya need to grind the liner lock...I would send it back to Buck.

Check your e-mail :)

The 889 isn't designed to be fully taken apart. You can use a torx driver to remove the pivot screw then push out the stud. After that you can remove the blade and washers.

Having said that you can clean it with soapy water or WD40 without removing the blade and then put a drop of oil on each washer after cleaning.

Put some Blue LocTite on the pivot and then find the "sweet spot" when ya put it back together.
