I'm curious if the fact that I can't seem to find the original box (still looking and may find it yet) would have much affect on what it could be sold for even though it's never been used to cut anything or EDC'd.

I did a Google search to make sure I have the correct model number and I'm almost positive that I have it right. This Buck Strider uses ATS-34 with G10 scales and uses Torx screws on both sides.

For whatever reason this is just one of those knives that caught my eye but once it came in I set it up on a shelf and never ended up carrying it. Anyone here EDC one of these for any length of time and like it? It feels like a very solid knife, the blade is perfectly centered and action is very smooth.

I bought my son one of the 889's and he used the heck out of his but he had a problem with the liner-lock on his but mine hits right where you would want it to be. All and all have these been pretty good knives?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

Collectors will usually pay more for a knife new in box. Me? I use mine so I like them to be without box, its more affordable :D

I had several of those knives over the years, never any issues with them. The SBTG is still my favorite and I had one for years, but my only problem was the serrated blade. I just don't ever use the serrations, so I can carry a smaller knife and still have the same cutting surface. The 882SBTG is a fantastic knife!

Yeah it certainly feels very solid, it seems like the G10 may wear your jeans pocket out if this was used as an EDC. I don't want to use it until I make up my mind if I'm gong to sell it or not. I recently moved and I know that I had the box before so hopefully I'll find it even if I do keep it. I'm still finding smaller knife boxes inside larger ones so I'll probably find it.

Friends help me move and this is one of the knives they sat on my dresser and I actually had forgotten about it and now I have renewed interest. I don't have many knives with serrations and I'm not a big fan of them but there's still enough belly on this blade that it shouldn't be too big an issue.

Did these knives sell well and were they well received or did poor sales lead to Buck discontinue them? If I don't find the box I'll most likely keep it, its not costing me anything and doesn't complain too much. Cool knife.

My son loved his 889 but the liner lock went all the way over and touched the other liner. This one the liner comes over and locks in place perfectly and I see that it has bronze washers. Anyone know how how along Buck stopped making them?

Thanks again for any info you can give.

I think they sold pretty good. They were a Strider Buck collaboration that ended. I think that is why they discontinued them. If you send the 889 into Buck they will fix it for you.
I think they have been discontinued for about 2 years maybe? Even without the box yours is probably worth more than you think ;) They were great knives, but then agian Buck replaced them with more great models so, I guess its a toss up! I never had problems with pocket wear with the G-10 model. Also, my current Buck has G-10 handles and no pocket wear either. That 882 is a great knife!

I'll let my son know about the 889 and if he hasn't trashed it by now maybe he'll want to send it in. I'm pretty sure that he got his $50 worth of fun out of it but we'll see. Thanks.

Not a problem ;)

They do have a lifetime warranty though, and Buck is pretty good about that! Unless of course it was abuse that bent the lock or something! Some guys did have issues with lock up on the 889. Good luck!

The liner lock was WAY over to the side when it arrived new but he didn't want to send it back so he used it until the lock went all the way over and almost off the blade. I'm not positive he still has it but I'll certainly mention sending it in for work IF he still has it.

What have these been selling for (ballpark)?
Thanks.

Sorry for the double post.....the page tried to load for about a minute so I thought my cable modem had gone down. Sorry.

I have no idea! Check on ebay, thats about all I do. I would say you may get some hits doing a search online for them, as well. As with anything it will be what they are selling for not what people are asking for them ;)
