hi guys

i live in Vancouver and recently i am trying to find a good small fixed blade for dailey carry, the two that caught my eyes are the buck/strider 888 and the Extrema Ratio Shrapnel Testudo Plain Edge, the price differences are like 20bucks US so they are both in my price range, which one would be the better choice and why?

also what are the qualities of Extrema Ratio knives like? are they clsoe to custom knives or they are not up there with USA production knives?

thank you very much..

I've handled a few ER fixed blades and I own a Nemesis folder. I like the designs, the handles have a very positive grip, for me, and the materials and fit and finish are right up there with the best American productions. They are not elegant in appearance, they are extremely "tactical" having been designed for combat/utility.

Here's a brief discussion from a few months ago: Extrema Ratio (Italy)

Here's the Extrema Ration web page for the Shrapnel.

Hey there..

As much as I respect Esav's opinion...

I'd say go with the Buck/Strider...

It is a hell of a knife..I've handled many,, and just ordered my own two days ago...
I'm impressed with the knife...

Although ER seems to be a decent blade it doesn't do a thing for me..
I'd like to have one though,,so I could trade it off for another knife..:)

I can't comment on the Extrema Ratio, but I have the Buck/Strider 888 and am extremely impressed with it. It comes shaving sharp in a very tidy sheath. One slight dislike in the handle design. The front finger choil is a little too large, so in order to get the detent between the first and second finger, you have to move your hand back a bit on the handle. I haven't given it any action yet so I'm not sure how this will feel when in use. However, this knife looks and feels like it could take some very serious work.
