buck strider BG-42

I do, I do!

It's my first choice when rough use is anticipated ans a full tang/fixed blade (my very first choice) is not appropriate. The Buck-Strider in BG-42 is an absolutely kick-a$$ knive - for a folder.

wat is your number, the serial number...
i tried playing withthe buck strider but its the ATS 34 one... its not bad.... but hmmm toooo square...dont u think so...

I have one too. It`s a VERY strong knife for a folder. Locks up tight with no blade wobble. I carry it when I can`t carry a fixed blade. Mine is serial #390.

Where are you guys seeing a serial number?
Mine says:

1st Production Run
1 of 500

I'm kinda doubting I have the 1st piece of the first production run. I'm generally not that lucky.

It's the large Buck/Strider and has the Bos logo with flame etched on the opposite side and under that is BG-42 U.S.A.

When Buck introduced the Strider it was with a Tanto style blade and on the blade was 1st production run 1 of 500. this was on all 500 knives. Later they introduced the spearpoint Strider and the the first 500 were individually numbered such as 265 of 500.

I owned a Tanto BG42 for 7 or 8 months and thought it was built like a tank, but it was to thick to be carried comfortably in the waist band of my pants. That is were I like to carry my folders. The handle was also to rough and tended to wear out the cloth on my pants. There was also a small amount of play in the blade.

The Buck Strider either BG-42 or ATS-34 is one kick-a$$ knife period.

I've got both s/n 001/500 of the first production run in BG42 of the Buck Strider Spearpoint and the Mini Spearpoint. They are both kickass knives. The big one is really large and not suitable for most people as an EDC. The Mini Spearpoint is the perfect size for my uses (if I were to use it).

Thanks,

I don't think I could stand the stress of knowing I had the first piece of the first production run.:D

I agree with that 100%. I also have that same little play in the blade. It's a little disconcerting, but the knife passes a spine whack test and doesn't unlock under hand pressure sooo...
I'm thinking this folder needs a sheath, as it is too uncomfortable in the pants pocket as thick as it is.

i just order the BG-42 mini buck strider tanto and spear point each.i didnt get it from my supplier as they do not have it. i got it from some web the oso ... someting( i forgot how to spell it), it cos me 320us dollars for two. i waiting for them to reach me.. i think i have to wait for another 14days. as it take about 7 days to reach them(i pay by money order) .. wait wait wait.. but i dont really know if that is a good buy..

I just got a Buck Strider BG42 in tanto point. I really like the knife. I was alittle apprehensive about buying one because of how it felt in my hand (kinda big and square).

I really like the knife for a "work" knife, because of how stout it is. I find it to be a little wide for EDC in regular pants..not too bad just a little wide. I also like the fact that it's the limited production run, I also have a limited edition red handle Sifu which this knife has replaced as a work knife.

It is wide but very strong and a very good knife for someone who wants a very stout folder.
:D

Just sand/file the handle down to a more rounded shape on the edges...

Got one too ;) 109/500. One tough piece... And BG-42 rocks :D

the full size.. is really too big... i think the mini is just nice... going to get mini tanto too...

I am new to the forum, but have been observing for some time. I have a couple of questions that you folks might be able to answer for me. I do have a mini spear point in BG-42 and a full size spear point in ATS-34.
From the converstion it looks like at some time Buck made the full size spear point in BG-42. Can you confirm this for me?
Second. Nice pictures Gator97. How did you get that super smooth (and probably sharp) finish on the edge of the blade?
Thanks in advance. I enjoy the site exchanges very much. Very informative. Tony

That's the one ont he pix. 1st prod. run of Buck Strider in BG-42.

Thanks. Edge-Pro. Though BG-42 treated by P. Boss was really difficult to grind. However edge holding is very, very good, well worth sharpneing difficulties :)

Gator97. Thanks for the information. I could not tell that the picture was of the large model. Proportionally the large and small look the same in a photo. Thanks for the tip on the Edge Pro. Tony

345/500.

I agree that the edges could probably be rounded a little bit but, not unlike the old dog laying on the front porch moaning and groaning because he is positioned right on top of a popped-up nail, it bothers me ... but not so much that I feel like doing anything about it.:D
