Buck/Strider BU-882SBTG Value?

I could use some help from anyone that has knowledge as to the value of a Buck/Strider folder that I have had sitting atop my dresser for the past several years. This is a knife that for whatever reason just never worked its way into my EDC rotation and therefore didn't get used.

First off I want to be sure of the model, I believe it to be the 882-SBTG. The blade is stamped Strider on top then Buck and then Tarani below that and it has a drop point blade of ATS-34 steel that is partially serrated.

The knife is held together with Torx screws, no rivets at all, Torx screws all around. The scales are black G10 and when opened the liner lock comes over just enough so that the liner is flush with the back of the blade (beautiful lockup).

I'm sure that I'm like most of you and have never thrown away any of my knife boxes yet I can't seem to find the box for this knife. I did move shortly after buying this one and I'm still looking for the box and haven't given up hope. It may be inside another larger knife box.

Can anyone tell me if I'm correct on the model number from what info I've given and if so a ballpark value? I was rather stunned to see a Buck/Strider 889 today on eBay and right now the high bid is $177. That seems rather high to me.....but I admit that I'm no expert when it comes to Buck knives and their value.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Have a great weekend.

LongBow,
Thanks so much for the information, I was "almost" certain of the model number as I seem to remember a Blade magazine review showing all of the different models and I ended up ordering the one of the more expensive ones.

I really want to find that box, I see that the two Buck/Strider folders that are up for bid now on eBay neither one has the original box......seems like I'm not the only one that may have misplace their box (don't you hate that?).

I thought I had found it late last night in a Bark River Bravo 2 box but it was for an Alpha folder. I'll keep looking and thanks again for your helpful input.

bernard,
I'm probably going to sell it since it just doesn't get used but I'd like to look around and get an idea as to what they're selling for. I would assume that Longbow is correct in his guess yet their are two models below mine on eBay right now with higher bids. The 889 has the highest bid which really surprises me because I bought that model for my son and I believe (could be wrong) that I gave something like $70 for it......give or take. I don't want to break any forum rules regarding selling (IF that would break the rules) since my reason for asking here was to find out if I was indeed correct about the model number.

The Buck/Strider with G-10 and torx construction is the SBTG model as Longbow stated. Now that the Buck Strider collaboration has ended (for some time now) they are becoming more "collectible" I still use mine and have a few of them here. They can be purchased for $100.00 or less, but on auctions sites, they do vary quite a bit. Longbows post was pretty much spot on IMHO.
Heres mine that I bought (the tan one was a gift) last year- all for less than $100.00 each.

The box may help the value some, but I wouldn't worry too much! ;)

Nice collection you have there. I almost pulled the trigger on the Buck/Strider fixed blade years ago, the shorter stout fixed knife....don't recall the name but I almost always get more use/enjoyment from folders and I already had a ton of fixed blades. It was a nice looking fixed blade though.

Thanks for the info, I usually save all boxes unless it was a very cheap knife so right now it's more of a "quest" than anything <grin>. Its possible that it was misplaced in my move but I'm hoping that its hiding in a bigger knife box. You're probably right that it wouldn't make much deference as I've now seen three separate Buck/Strider folders on eBay without the box and all over a hundred. They seem to be selling well on eBay, is there any advantage to selling in the proper forum here?

In order to sell here, you have to have a gold membership, and you have a smaller market (IMHO)
If you sell online, you have more fees and rules, but can list to a much larger market. I don't really buy to resale, and I havent sold anything in quite awhile, so I can't really say which has the "advantage" sorry. ;)

I know what you mean, don't believe I've ever sold any of my knives before. It was mentioned to me a month or so ago that I never use that knife so I though I'd find out what its worth as I could use the money and someone will end up with a knife that was never used for anything more than cutting cardboard the day it arrived.....a win win situation. If the knife at the bottom of your picture uses ATS-34 steel then that is exactly what I have....solid/stout knife.

Thanks for your help.

Yes they are all ATS-34, and they are great stout knives! The bottom knife is the SBTG.
Someone will be happy with it!! :D I sure like mine!

I wouldn't read too much into the 889 that you saw on eBay. That was a fluke as it ended up "selling" for $330. That was my knife and the actual price should have been about $100. Two bidders got in a bidding war and the winning bidder was from the Czech Republic. He has a "0" feedback rating and also appears to have some difficulty with English, as he surely missed the very last sentence in my description that reads: "Sorry, no international shipping". I feel bad that someone would actually pay that much, but hey...fat chance I'll actually get paid anyway.

Don't tell me that <grin> I told my son about it and he's been looking for the box for his 889. If two guys got into a battle over the knife hopefully the one that lost out will be happy to be given a chance to buy the knife a this last bid or close to it. I didn't go back to see how much it sold for, if I'd seen $330 I would have been highly motivated to put my 882-SBTG up for sale ASAP. There is/was a Police model 882 with the rivets that had a nice bid ($130+) on it over the weekend as well but the last I saw it was below what yours was going for.

Best of luck, hopefully one of the higher bidders will go ahead and buy your knife.

I won't even offer it to the second bidder. With "0" feedback I can't even be sure the high bidder was legitimate. If it was a legitimate case of two bidders not having the good sense to know when to stop, well then I wouldn't feel too bad at all and one of them could go ahead and pay for their "lesson".

I'm relativity new to eBay, I may have bought something from the site before but I'm not positive so if nobody gave me a grade/rating for my purchase wouldn't that mean that I had zero feedback and then many wouldn't sell to or buy from me? If you're going to use eBay you've gotta start at zero I would assume. Oh well, thought maybe the guy that came in second would be happy to be able to buy your knife after thinking they'd lost out. If/when I put up my 882 I can only hope that a couple guys get into a bidding war but hopefully it would be guys in the U.S. I'd be happy to get the full retail price back if at all possible. Best of luck.
Take care.
