I just held the Strider Buck folder that is selling for $55, $75, and $110. The new folders for $55 have the tan, black, and OD scales.

These are the style folders that have the thumb stud and oval hole in the blade. The one made from ATS34 has the rough finish on the top of the blade.

I must say that while I am not crazy about the looks, I do like how this knife is laid out. It feels like crap in my pockect b/c of the width and checkering, but seems like it would be a great camp knife folder.

I like the belly, brass washers, hand filling handle, and dark finishes.

Is 420 HC worth fooling with? Are these folders holding up well? Where can you get the best price on these folders?

Will a split between Buck and Strider occur soon enough as to disrupt production of this line?

Thanks.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday from www.knifeworks.com I really like it, the washers are bronze, not brass and this thing is built like a tank!

I use Buck's 420HC all the time and it is a perfectly good steel, holds an edge well and sharpens easily, it won't let you down.

Is a "split" between Buck and Strider for sure????

Someone commented on another thread that it might be. However, at this point it is up to the rumor mill, so keep that in mind. As popular as these knives seem to be with everyone here I don't know why it would be necessary.

I have seen many collarborations over the years in the knife industry, many come and go. For various reasons they end, but I think many end simply b/c one side or both outgrow the relationship and want to move on.

Time will tell if they do split. I do like these pocketknives, and hope not.

What was shipping and handling on that knife, and which color and specific model did you get?

Sheperd Hills has the same knife for 54.95 with no shipping while I am in the area.

How about a review when you have had a chance to use it? The lock does seem to set up tight, and I like that as well.

Thanks.

Total with shipping was 53.75 from www.knifeworks.com, as of 3 days ago they were out of the brown handled model, but were ordering more. I got the all black one (BU889BKB). The liner-lock is the stiffest I have seen, I have to push hard to release it, can't imagine it failing! Knife opens smooth also, for a BIG knife it's real slick overall.

I've had mine in OD Green (very dark BTW) for a month or so. It's become my EDC. The 420HC is holding up great. Lots of use and still haven't even had to touch it up yet. Buck seem to get excellent performance out of 420HC.

I wish they'd bring one out in S30V or BG-42. Feels great in the hand. Rugged as all get out. Lock up is solid. And I love the way it looks. :D

first...no strider buck breakup. I answered this in another thread but in a nutshell Strider is doing a joint project with Ken Onion to benefit disabled veterans. Buck has stepped aside for a good cause but still plans to continue in an exclusive manner with strider into the future...

These are no nonsense knives built as workhorses...just not as heavy as the usual strider/buck had been. I like the handle shape as you can grip the knife many different ways and apply some pretty good force without having it slip in your hand...that said it is rough on pockets....the strider boys feel pants are more replaceable than fingers.

CJ you guys have made a great folder in the SBMF, the more I use it the more I like it. I'm having supper today with a buddy that just returned from his second tour in Iraq in SPECOPS, gonna get his opinion of it and will post it later.

My buddy gave the SBMF VERY high marks last night, said he wouldn't hesitate to go in the field with one. Really liked how strong it was and the versatility of the handle shape.

Another winner for Buck!

Just got a PE 889 today. Must say wasn't impressed with the edge at all on the blade. Very rough cut and definetly not sharp. Also the pivot was pretty difficult to work and it squeeked like no tomorrow. Lastly darned if it didn't look like a used knife when I rec. it. Just didn't look package new. All that being said I put my Lansky on it, oiled it with some 20-50 syntec HD motor oil and then used carb cleaner on the blade. Doesn't look half bad now and it is sharp to boot. The only thing is that the blade takes a very fine edge. You know almost to grabby. So I guess I'll nock it down some on a hand held med. stone. Jury is still out on this one. Definetly don't think it is in a league with my original in ATS34 though. keepem sharp
