Am very interested in a Buck Knives Strider B882 Tactical Police that I've seen.

Has anyone any first hand experience of them? How do they compare to similarly priced Spyderco etc?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I bought one a few weeks ago when there was a feeding frenzy on them when one of the major vendors (can't remember which) put them on a deep discount.

Mine has received no use, but thats no reflection on the knife. It appears well made and is sturdy. Reminds me (no surprise) of my Strider SNG, though without the titanium, G10 and tiger stripes. Also the Buck has a liner lock (I'm no real fan of any liner lock), but lockup appears very strong and I would have no fear of it collapsing on my fingers. The plastic scales are sturdy, but have a cheap feel to them (just my subjective opinion) and I don't really care for the rivets.

But from my perspective of never having used the knife, it nevertheless feels well built and sturdy, and worth the price of admission if you are into it.

As for the Spyderco comparison, I own probably a dozen of them and am a fan. Again - not having used/abused the Buck - I would guess that their build quality is more or less comparable, though I would give the edge to the Spyderco family in refinement, availability, wide variety of flavors from which to choose, etc.

I bought a Buck 882 a few years ago and carry it on a regular basis. I liked it so much that I bought a Strider SnG too.

Pros:
It opens smoothly
The knife can be gripped many different ways
The steel used is a higher quality as compared to the less expensive Buck Stirder in 420HC
It's a big knife but carries well.

Cons:
The ball detent is a little weak ( probably because the blade is heavy)
The liner could be a little thicker ( but it does feel secure)
I agree with powernoodle , I would have preferred screw construction instead of rivets ( there is another model made with screws and G10 grips , but it's hard to find)

Overall I like the knife very much and it's on of my favorites. They do come up on Ebay a lot.

I bought two when the $39.95 clearance at Cabela's was announced.

The higher grade steel, the great edge, the ease of opening and deploying with one hand, the battle tank sturdiness.....these things have elevated it to being my choice for EDC.

I've used it quite a bit and it shows every sign of lasting forever and taking on whatever task that presents.
