Hello!

I am new to the Buck Strider world so I thought I would ask my questions here.

I recently acquired a Mini Buck Strider, spear point, plain edge. It is not in the newer style yellow boxes as I see in the store so I think it is an older one. Brand new though.

As I understand it, the are different "generations" out there, so how does one tell them apart?

And some have steel liners, others titanium.

The scales on mine are rather thick and grippy G10 and the blade is coated.
There appear to be brass colored washers on both sides of the blade, with one side looking thicker than the other. The washer I mean. One thumb stud set up for right handed peoples.

After searching through posts, it looks as though there are upgrades I can have done to my knife? If this is so, what are the upgrades and the cost that go with them? Can you pick and choose what you want done from what is available? Is there as way to tell year of manufacture?

Other than the knife being thicker than I am used to, it appears to be one tough knife that I really like so far. This thing is solid. I'm hoping that the clip and G10 on that side do loosen up a bit though. Seems like when I try to pull it from from pocket I'm going to yank my jeans off. :D

Thanks for the help guys!

Joe

i'll take a shot at this, i own 2 buck striders they are tough freakin folders.

the liners are titanium, the washers are bronze, are you sure theres not 2 washers on the thumb stud side? the mini buck striders are not made anymore so you own a sweet knife! i have a mini tanto and a full size spear point.

you can tell the year it was made by the mark under the sb.2 on the choil of the knife.

look on bucks website for the chart of what symbols mean what year.

durban.....thanks for the response. I learned mine was made in 2001. Didn't know thats what those marks meant. Also learned my old 560 was made in 1995.

I am a bit confused however, you mentioned that the Mini Buck Striders were discontinued but I see them still listed on the Buck website, and they seem to be plentiful online and in the shops. Just curious as I hadn't heard of them being discontinued. Didn't they sell very well?
