I've been recently looking at these knives, they do come up on the web from time to time. There's a great youtube video on SB5 tanto model here:
Apparently every Buck has a symbol that indicates a production year. Knife in the video has a reversed T. right above the SB5 mark on the ricasso. Indicating that the knife was made in 2004.
I saw some of these knives that look almost exactly the same as the one in the video, they have all the marks except that tiny symbol above SB5 mark.
My question is: Are knives without the production year marks counterfeits or was it normal for some to not have the mark?
I also saw some pictures of these knives where serrations are coated with the black oxide. Isn't that strange? What's the reasoning behind this?
