I don't know, not really a review because I don't feel like going in depth on it.

It's kind of a piece of crap. Better knives can be had for 52.50 and I think I'm sending it back.
The blade opens poorly, the lock doesn't engage right I'd say about 10% of the time, and the clip is waaaay to tight. My thumb and forefinger are actually a little sore from opening, closing, and taking the knife out of my pocket.

The nice part is that it comes very sharp and the knife has a great feel in your hand like it could chop down a tree. Heck it even looks good. Just too many negatives to keep it around in my book.

I had an 889 and have recently picked up another one and have had great luck with them. aside from the fact that the checkering could be used to file metal i had no complaint with mine. the problems you mention seem to be something that could easily be taken care of by buck if you sent it back, come on give them a chance to change your mind maybe it was a friday afternoon or monday morning knife.

Yeah i've had nothing good to say about mine, either speaking of which Noss check your email

I traded for one and the first thing I did after reading about the spotty lock on here was to give it some light spinewhacks on wood. It would fold up every time. Also, when I'd open it the pivot screw would rotate, which was odd but might not be a real problem. The lock was sticky to disengage but that's probably from it still being new. I like the design a lot, but the lock kind of concerns me. I've been more impressed with 50$ Kershaws and Spydercos or even some of the 20-30$ stuff Buck offers, but I sent it in to give them a chance to make the knife right.

What exactly is happening with the lock? Is it because it doesn't open smoothly that it just doesn't engage the blade when you open it, or is it something else? Sounds like the pivot screw is too tight and/or there's a lot of factory gunk still in there. A good cleaning and a torx wrench might make it better.

funny, mine just happened to be beside me. not my favorite knife, and i don't like strider very much, but i like my 889. i wouldn't have paid for it, i traded a handmade knife that i won in a raffle for it. however, having owned it a while, i think it is worth the money. mine locks up solid with smooth action and takes a great edge.

my main knives are the pioneer and delica. when i need a large, hard use folder, i reach for my 889 before my other large knives. partly because i care less for it, partly because it's well qualified.
