Buck/Strider SBMF - opinions?

There's Not much talk about these. I heard that the QC of the SBMFs' liner locks tends to be...well, sketchy. The liner does look mighty thin to me.

Yeah, I know, it's not a real Strider, but I would like to know if it's just a crappy Strider lookalike (albeit a licensed one)...or does it perform well within its limits?

I have not used that one, bug have used the Buck/Strider heavy sabre tanto., I certainly would not call it a crappy look alike. The liner lock execution was as good as any I have seen. Buck's customer also service has few complaints and I can't recall anyone having problems which were not addressed.

I have on on the way should be here tomarrow.. I will post a review on it with pictures when it arrives and try to add too it as time goes on .. I am crossing my fingers it is at least as good as My CRKT's ... I really like them a bunch..

I have a Buck/Strider Tarani with the plain/serrated edge - not quite the same as yours, but close, I think. It's a beefy, well made, solid knife. I just wish I could've gotten a plain edge.

The only complaints I've heard about Buck liner locks are that they sometimes need tweaking to engage more securely. Of the many Bucks that I own, only one has had this problem. Never had any problems with failures or near failures. My Tarani liner lock snaps in solid and is secure until I want to disengage it. It doesn't look like an I-beam, but it's plenty strong.

The Strider collaborations with Buck have produced well made, very tough knives. I like my Strider Solution better than most of the pure Striders.

I think you'll be very happy with you SBMF. Thinking of getting one myself.

I'm currently waiting for my preferred internet dealer to get in the OD green model, but from what I've read most people like them for the price-point they are at. I think they'll stand up nicely to anything in the $50-55 range (street price). Not to present all things rosey, however, these are some of the observations I've heard from others:

The liner: thicker than the earlier Buck/Tarani (sp) liner, but not by much. They're actually of a similar thickness to Emerson liners- though SS and not Ti. Some people have had their liner move almost all the way to the right quickly (out of the box), though nobody has complained about blade play.

The scales: Some are waiting for the ATS-34/G10 model to come out, but others have found that you can actually disassemble this knife easier than the SBT knives in order to add your own scales. I've seen some killer mods with CF on this knife.

The blade coating: Some people have been dissatisfied with the coating, noting that the coating looks "streaky" and thin on the blade. Like the liner issue, it seems to be hit-or-miss.

Its a good knife, I think, for what it is. Certainly at the price you can't really go too wrong. The blade should be a better slicer than on the 880-881s and best of all is plain edge. I plan to carry one when my dealer gets them in. Hope I haven't muddied the waters too much, these were just some of the things I noticed other people say after they got theirs.

Sincerely,
Anthony

Really, never heard or read anyone say or type that before!

To each their own.

I ended up getting one for my lil' bro and he has put it through hell cutting everything imaginable and it has held up very very well. For the price they make good beater knives.

They are not a pure Strider but for the price they are very nice.

Ok incase ya don't get it here is my email.. J.T.Porter@Gmail.com

Yeah they are not the really expensive real deal striders.. But I am not worried about loosing it near as much as I would with a $300 + knife either..
If I had a real strider .. this would be the EDC just because I would work the hell out of it with out worrying about degrading or loosing the real one..
