I'm looking to buy a all around field/survival knife and have narrowed in down to the Buck Strider Solution or 890SPX. What do you guys think would make a better knife? I need something to do it all from skinning game to sharpening a stick to roast marshmallows.

In my opinion I would go with the Buck/Strider Solution, have one for a few years now, and it has never failed me yet. As far as the 890SPX, have never handled one, dont realy care for serrations ( Unless they are no making a plain edge version???) so I cant realy give an opinion on that model.

I'm really leaning in that direction. I'll see if anyone else has an opinion.

I have a 888 Solution and I love it. Good in the hand, built like a tank, takes and holds one hell of an edge and is "just the right size". I did make my own leather sheath for mine as I dislike the cordura job supplied, and I re-profiled the edge on my knife to a finer final grind angle. The "tactical" badge the knife carries explains why it came with such a steeply edged blade, but for more "everyday" use I find the finer edge is far better.
I've not handled a 890SPX or any of the other fixed blade Buck/Striders, but I do know that I would have had to look a long way to find a knife that I was more happy with for the money than my 888 Solution.
