Went by the local brick & mortar for a looksee as it had been a month or so since my last visit. And what to my wondering eyes did appear, but a large Buck/Strider spearpoint! This makes the THIRD one I've had. The only reason I even bought this one was because the action was a slick as ever I've felt and the blade was completely and perfectly centered upon closing!! This is the first one I've had that had both those attributes. I don't know if they are being built with more qc but this one is without a doubt the best Buck/Strider folder I've seen. I have even tightened it down to my liking, which wasn't much, and it still flips open with ease and the lockup is perfect with the liner coming over to the left side of the blade tang. Upon closing everything is still centered. :D On all the others I have taken them apart, polished the tang and ti plates where the blade rotates and still not been pleased. This one will require no taking apart at all, and as I said functions like a dream. The only gripe I have is the sharp edges on the G-10 so I might have to tale some of that off, we'll see.

seriously though, has anyone else noticed this or did I just get a couple lemons before?

It always amazes me, but it seems that indeed you got a higher number of bad ones. I have had four Buck/Striders, and every one of them was what I would consider perfect for a production knife. Maybe it is I who have the good luck!:p

I sent my mini spear point to Buck today for excessive play. It was to slopy for me to live with. I'll post how long it takes and what the knife is like when it finally returns to me.

There seems to be quite a few problems with this. I think it's a combination of the rough finish on the blade, the soft titanium liners, and also the relative weakness of the stop pin.

Mine hasn't failed me yet, but power thrusts into hard things will cause the liner to move far to the right.

I've bought and traded several Buck Striders, but I still own one. Fit and finished varied slightly on all my samples, but nothing major. I have noticed that current models seem to have better fit and finish: (no blade play, blade centered in the handle when closed, even bead blast finish), so I suppose the only thing left for people to gripe about is the aggressive texture on the G-10 scales. Still, that can be remedied as well. The Buck Striders aren't for everyone, but when you get good ones, the make great beaters.

The others I had were rough finished also. The blade and liners actually had some flashing left on them. The liner lock would lock up in two or three different places also. The one I have now just plain looks better and for sure acts better.
I haven't tried any thrusting but will to check out the movement. Whats the deal with softer liners as this is the first I've heard that.

I've only handled one Buck/Strider Spearpoint yet and I was less than impress with its fit and finish, to be honest. Opening wasn't very smooth and the G-10 scales could have been fit a lot better.
It looks like an incredibly solid folder though.
