Buck Strider.....Tanto or Spear point?

I am considering the purchase of a Buck Strider, but I want some advise on which to get. I don't mind tantos or spear points, but I've been told the tanto version does not have a sharpened tip. Is this so? Any input would be very appreciated. :)

The secondary ("point") edge is not sharpened, but you could sharpen it easily if you want to. It's ground, and optimized for scraping. Personally, I'd go for the spear point--if it didn't have a linerlock, of course...

I just got the spearpoint. Nice blade. I held it next to my Sebenza, and saw a lot of similarity in the outline and size, the Strider being slightly larger and thicker, of course. They are both open-back construction, too.

The liner is massive. I'm not worried about it collapsing under any foreseeable circumstances. But I'm not exploring the far side of the moon, either. You could probably hammer nails with it as a spine whack test.

It sharpens up very nicely and keeps the edge, too.

A tanto can't be as generally useful. This isn't a kitchen knife, but I tested it out on veggies, and I can't see a tanto, however sharpened, being as adaptable to that kind of slicing.

Just MHO--I've handled both--spearpoint is the choice if you are planning on using it as an EDC.

I've got one of the BG-42 Tanto style Buck Striders and the first thing I did when I tried to use it was to ask myself "why didn't they make this in a more user friendly pattern like a drop point?" The spear point will work very nicely thank-you-very-much.
Get the spear point and you'll be better off. Unless of course your an Army Ranger, SWAT Team member or something like that and have a real need for a sharpened pry bar.

BTW, I re-ground the the secondary edge on mine so I could get a razor edge on it. Now, I'm ok with it. As far as tantos go anyway.:/
