Which knife do you guys think is the better choice? The knife would be used for camp chores and survival if needed.

Thanks!

Jeff

Not to rain on your parade but .........neither one. As much as I like Buck and Al Mar both are linerlocks.
Other than that both would serve very well in the field. There is another knife to consider if you wish to,
The A.G. Russell "Strikeforce". It's new on the market and contains many of the best features of the Buck
& the Al Mar sere 2000. The good news is it's cheaper than both the Buck & the sere 2000 while matching
both in quality and reliablity. Check out A.G.'s web site.

For camp chores and survival I would want a full tang fixed blade; but, between the two choices you gave (I own both) I would go with the Buck/Strider.

I fail to see where the fact that the knife has a liner lock is going to prove to be a liability. I admit that I am one of those who are partial to them. Strider makes some of the finest survival/tactical blades out there. They are designed to be used hard. If there was a serious issue with the reliability of liner locks, I have a strong feeling that Strider Knives would have opted for a different locking system.

I'm certain that A.G. Russel makes fine knives. I've never handled one myself, but everything I have heard about them is positive. As for the choice between the two knives in question, I would opt for the Strider.

For weekend camping/fishing trips or 3-4 day adventures I would opt for the Strike Force (I have one), but if we are talking a month or more..or if a survival situation appears a high risk before leaving, I would move on up to a Tops CQT Magnum # 747.

The Buck Strider vs. Al Mar SERE 2000? For me, just lay both on a table, I will close my eyes and choose one. Both are great knives and I would do well with either one by fitting my "knife style" to their individual characteristics. Truth be told.

By the way, what is Santas email address?, No reason to wait until November to get my list over to him, especially since I just learned something.
