I'm thinking of getting the Buck strider. It is advertised as having a 3.5" blade. Could someone let me know the actual cutting edge length - not the blade.

I should have said the Buck SBMF Strider/Buck Military Folder 889ODB

I'm thinking of having partial serrations added.

Thanks

Ouch! and thanks - I have a Kershaw Junkyard Dog PS and was thinking a something a bit more stout.

The Kershaw JYD has about the same cutting edge as the Strider.

I don't want to get a larger knife than either of them

This (the short cutting edge) is one of the drawbacks of the 882/889 design in my opinion. The extra finger choil is a really nice feature and I find myself using it a lot, but it results in a pretty short cutting edge for a relatively big folder.

For a folder two aspects my perfect knife would be;
3" cutting edge length
2" of plain edge - 1" of serrated
3" to 3.25" handle - thin
Wharncliff or modified drop point blade shape.
