I just bought one today, ITS HUGE ! I am amazed by the size of this thing. the blade is full thickness up to a few mm from the tip. I could go on and on about how massive and overbuilt it is.

I got one of the first production run ones made of BG-42, my first BG-42 knife so Im not sure what to expect but man do I like this knife! A review might follow after some use but for now I think its gonna sit around and look pretty

Hello all.

I am new here so, I'll try not to step on too many toes my first time out

Hickey, I'm glad you're enjoying your new knife. I've not used one yet, nor read any reviews other than yours but, I'd like to weigh in with some concerns here.

I recently saw the ad for the Strider, liked the looks of it, recalled fond memories of my past Bucks, and figured I'd check out the write-up on their web site. At a MSRP of @$200

, what I came away with was sticker shock.

I've owned lots of Bucks over the years. As I would imagine many of us have. The primary reasons for this were that, I grew up with them, they were good quality for the money, and they did what they advertised. Overall, a good bargain.

Now, that said, I am not tight with money when it comes to quality tools. I like to spend enough to guarantee a long product life and years of hard use. I see this as being important because it's fairly easy to concieve that my life could depend on a good knife (it has a time or two in the past) and when the defication hits the ventilation I like to know that my gear is going to weather the storm.

It seems to me that the median price for good quality tac folders is $120-$150. Buck has always been comparable in price to the industry average in the past, so what gives?

If the Strider turns out to be head and shoulders above the rest of the field, I'll gladly withdraw my criticism. Until then though, I'll remain a little skeptical and disappointed.

Perhaps one reason for the big $$$$ is the heat treater- Paul Bos. He's the best and so Buck has to pay that bill- and pass the cost onto the consumer.

This is one hard use knife. When you need a big dependable folder take this one along.

A check of internet dealers will show the street price is more like $125 and up. Shop around and you can get a good price. Mine came from One Stop Knife Shop. Great people to do business with.
Buck has broken out of their triditional mold with this one. Hope to see more of this type of inovation by Buck.

I have a Buck 110MS overrun in BG-42. IMHO, a better knife for less money.

110 better than a Strider???Man, I've carried a 110 for most of my adult life, as long as Buck has made it. But to compare it to a Strider? The Strider is a Mercedes and the 110 is a Volkswagon Bug. You get what you pay for fudo, why dance when you can rock and roll.

OK,
I know I posted this once before but I wanna show it off again!!

A while back I couldn't work on my knives due to a mix up with my 3M rep. I was tired of the black G10 on my Buck/Strider and decided to give the knife a facelift

The dovetailed bolsters are Ti, the wood is Koa from Tom Mayo in Hawai. I jewelled, and polished the liners and re-cut the lazer cut grip serrations and added a Ti. pocket clip. All the Ti. is anondized a purple-gold color.
This project took longer to do than making a complete fixed blade so I REALY don't want to do another one!!

The Strider sure is big.
Are we sure this is a pocket folder?

BTW-Paul Bos, if my memory serves me, works for Buck, in addition to his custom heat treating. If I am mistaken, someone please correct me.

They are both in El Cajon, CA.
