Hi everyone

I was browsing the buck website and saw the collaboration with strider. The one that interests me is for 89$ with 420 as its blade steel

I do not know buck at all so my question is: is this a good knife for the money and will it be a good edc. Any other comments will be appreciated

Hi marthinus. Sounds like you've been looking at the Buck 889 SBMF folder. In my opinion it's one of the best EDC knives out there. It may be a little too large for some to EDC but I find it really carrys well in the pocket.

Do a search here for "889" and you'll find lots of threads on them. Here are a few pics of mine:

Marthinus,
I have about half a dozen BS knives and, like Messy said, the 889SBMF rocks.
I swapped out my 882SBTG ATS-34 blade with the 889SBMF 420HC. Prefer the 889 non-serrated, non-stippled, black blade of the 889.
But I prefer the G-10 scales of the 882.

In case you missed it, here's pics of it in action from earlier this week. The bottom pic shows the G-10 scales well:

Here's another pic with the BS Herd (missing in the pic is another 889LE and my 890-OX)

Thank you for the fast reply. The 889 is the one I am looking at. As I said I have no experience with buck but know they come highly recommended.

I did mis that thread because I can only access the web for long periods over the weekends so thank you for the link.

Thank you once again.

Marthinus - I'd recommend the 889 as well, but you can find them cheaper than $89. Do a Google Product search (use the tab at the top of the Google search page that says "MORE") and you'll see that they generally go for a little over $50. Thye can be had on eBay for as little as $45. These are a great solid knife and I think you'll like them.

If you prefer a higher end blade steel, do a search for the Buck 882 - it has a partially serrated 154CM blade. Make sure you read the description carefully though. Some of the earlier 882's had the same TACCOM (plastic) handle scales that the less expensive 889 did. The current 882 is produced with a cool G-10 handle, so if you're gonna spend the extra money, I'd recommned getting this one!! If you have trouble finding one online, send me an e-mail and I'll get you set up - they are still available in the Buck Factory Store.

Good luck - Jim
