Hello everyone,
I just picked up a Buck Strider fixed blade and have some questions.
I dont know much about bucks, but what does the BOS symbol on the
blade stand for ? Does this mean that the blade steel is something else
besides 420HC ? I live close to FortHood, so it probably belonged to a
soldier who bought it at the PX or was bought for him (look at the
engraving on the knife). It also has hatch marks on the scale which the
military types I work with say that is how some guys keep track of kills.

Thanks,
Ram

I believe the BOS you see on the blade means it was heat treated by Paul Bos, which is why there is also a flame in the logo. As for the hatch marks, I hope they represent some ill-fated insurgents!

Thanks Jonnymacc ! It's one heck of a thick blade ! I am going to clean
it up and add it to my collection or I may put it up for trade.

Thanks,
Ram

Don't know about the steel type, but Bos does a lot of work for Buck. I believe he came up with the heat treat for 420HC that works so well for them. If it was ATS34 it should be stamped as such.

As for the scratches, that could just be a random scrape. Notches would be filed completely across just because it would be hard to taper them as pictured - and on just one scale implies it was removed each time.

Still, the sentiment holds. It's a good piece.
