Buck Strider knives?
Yeah, I guess they're ok![]()
Colt, My son sent me a photo of himself last week, standing by the pool in Balad.
I have several of the Buck-Strider 889s (FRN hanhdle with 420 blade) and one of the 887 (FRN handle and the ATS-34 blade). I used to have one of the 882s, but sold that one a while back before I really got 'into' the Buck-Strider folders.
There's one guy who always posts about how the liner locks on these folders are terrible and fail. That's one data point and based on one knife.
I currently have five (5) and with the 882 I previously sold, that makes six (6) and they all lock up well and solid.
If you can get one for a reasonable price (and a price that is acceptable to you), then I would recommend you get one.
I've found that the 889s with the 420 blade do take and hold a decent edge. Plus, I like that plain-edged blade. The 887 with the ATS-34 blade does hold an edge longer, but it has the partial serrations. I've actually found that the 420 blade seems to have more 'bite' to it, too, on its plain-edge. Really grabs and cuts what I want.
I've mostly used the 889s and 887s for garage, home, and garden chores. Had one of the 889s buried in mud while using it (dug out some small roots in wet ground) and I've definitely not babied those knives at all.
Still work well and lock up tight.
Hope that helps...
Regards,
Mike
