Buck/Striders soon to be discontinued?

I was looking on Strider's website, and I noticed that they no longer have a Buck/Strider page that is accessable. Anybody else think that there might be no more Buck/Strider in the near future?

I was on the Strider website lastnight and noticed the same thing. Maybe they had a falling out or something. Your best bet is probably ask Strider directly. They could be just doing revisions on the page.

I noticed there are new Kershaw Strider collaborations. What's up with Buck Striders? Is the Buck Strider collaboration over?

In the Buck Clearance Sale...? thread, there are several versions of the Buck Strider and Mini-Strider that are listed as on-sale. However, it isn't all of the Buck Strider knife versions that have been marked-down in price.

So, despite there seeming to be indications that Buck and Strider have ended their collaboration, there isn't, at least as yet, anything concrete that confirms that suspicion. Keep checking-out the Strider and Buck web sites, and see if there's any announcements that can either confirm or shatter your suspicion.

Unless someone from Buck would care to make comment here, of course. :)

Here's Strider's reply to my email

Hi Justin,
We are no longer in collaboration with Buck Knives. Buck Knives and their
dealers will be selling their remaining inventory of Strider-Buck
collaborations and when they are gone there will be no more.
Thanks,
Rob

Wow. That's a darn shame. Thanks for e-mailing Strider, usrangers1985.

I guess that if you want a Buck Strider knife, now is the time to get one, or several....

My first knife was a buck. Since then, my tastes have changed and I starting looking to other brands, until I saw the Buck Strider line. After I bought my first Buck Strider, 880-00-0, no other knife could compare at that price point. They are excellent knives and when compared to other brands, such as Emerson, Microtech, Benchmade, etc. one only saw how great of a knife it really was. Given the thickness of the blade, liners and G 10, one knife should last a lifetime. I am saddened to see the knife, that rekindled my interest in Buck knives, discontinued. Strider makes and designs a great knife and I am happy that, at least for a while, these two great companies worked together to provide us with such a wonderful product. A good knife is a great tool. Dollar for dollar, no knife can compare. I guess the upside is, value on these will go up, especially as one continues to see current production tactical knives in general go up year after year.

I'm glad I found this post!
I like all of the Srider/Bucks, especially the newer fixed blades. I guess it is time to get them, while the getting is good!

Don't worry. Based on some of the statements by the hard core Strider guys on another forum their Buck/Striders are now worthless POS to them. I figure there will be used ones in good shape readily available for some time probably for a good price.

Funny how the Buck Strider knives were so great one day and worthless the next. Now all the sudden they are taboo to even hold or use to a lot of those guys. Not that I mind. I'll take a couple more of the mini 881s off their hands if they really feel that way. To me they will always be a super little tank of a folder.

STR,

Have you ever done any customization of a SBT Police Knife? I was just curious, I'm a big fan of your work.

You know I had one of those in the ATS34 Bos heat treat and it had a really abrasive finish to it. I sanded it down so it was smoother and not so rough on my pocket. I seem to recall that the guy that sold it to me got rid of it for just that reason. He was active duty and it kept chewing up his pants pockets to where he was technically out of uniform.

I was just about to tear it apart and make it into a frame lock when I got a good offer for it and sold it. I liked that blade a lot but never really took to the thinness of the lock even though it never gave me any real reason to doubt it was secure.

That is really all the experience I had with that one. I want to say it was an 882 but its been a while. It may be 889 I just don't recall. It was the FRN or similar handle with ATS34 blade not the G10 model.

Oh and thanks for the compliments.

Ill enlighten you guys as to what happened. buck stabbed Mick & Co in the back. Their new knife the ghostrider, was an un authorized knock-off. If you really want to know more go to the strider forum on the USN. They really dicked the strider guys over, big time. Buck is nott he same company it used to be.

I just read the entire thread that you referenced and there was nothing but banter back and forth between folks that really had no information as to exactly what happened, and I suspect no one ever will. I personally am not in the habit of condemning someone or some company until I have all the facts in front of me. There are always two sides of every story and in this case neither side was mentioned on the thread that you reference. So your assertion that Buck stabbed Strider in the back is nothing more than hearsay and speculation. Until I hear one side or the other offer up an explanation and the other side confirm it, I will suspend judgement. Collaborations always come to an end. This was a good one and I'm sure there will be more good ones in the future, both for Buck and Strider. Both make great knives.

well i for one am sorry to see the end of the buck/strider collaboration. I've got an 889 with the scales sanded down which is awesome. it's one of the only tactical i still carry. well guess i'll have to find one on the sales forum.
it's like an old man told me one time, when you find something you like you really ought to buy 2 of them because when you want another you won't be able to find one. later, ahgar
