I was going through the closet in the family room where I used to keep my guns and knives before I converted one bedroom into my den / office / junk catcher room, and found this one I forgot I even had, an early black micarta Kalinga, in the hard box. (box is pretty rough, bad hinge), but knife looks unused. The only markings on it are:

Buck
Kalinga
USA

If anyone has an idea of how old it is, and it`s worth, I would appreciate it. I plan on getting rid of it since I prefer the folders. I don`t even remember when or where I got this one, it`s hell getting old!

WOW!! Awesome find. That is my favorite model Kalinga. I'm not sure if the micarta models ALL predated the tang stamp dating, but have you checked the stamp?

Peter

JK, Your Kalinga is easy to date from the box and guard . Glad you could show a photo of the box . Your model was mfg. with that stamp and box from 1974-81 . The 1973 models had burgundy micarta handles(more rare) and prior models 1970-72 though black micarta was used the stamp was inverted . So, I'm mostly certain yours is from these years . DM

Real common on e-Bay.

Most seem to go for well over a hundred bucks and many seem to have beat-up boxes like yours.

Buck must have put out a lot of cheap boxes.

Take a look at e-Bay for a couple of weeks and you'll have a pretty accurate fix on what they go for.

Nice knife, gotta love that Kalinga styling and heavy-duty construction!

Yes 440C and it should be more thick at the edge . More like a semi-hollow grind . The boxes get beat up, I've seen them in real good shape and then others from the bottom of the pile in the garage . Still, a great knife . Do you happen to have any other paperwork with it ? ie. a sales reciept, ect.. DM
