I found this knife at a pawn shop for $23. When I saw the ATS-34 blade, the G-10 handle and "Made in Taiwan or China, etc" no where in sight, I knew I was onto something good. It is a brand new, in the box, Buck 4.75" Taclite B885-BK-0, Cat 5085. Box has a factory barcode that says Made in USA on the bottom. On the side it has another barcode from Schanfer Cutlery. Has a regular price of $125, and a sale price of $89.99. The blade has "Buck" on one side and what looks like a flame on the other end with "BOS" at the end of it, ATS-34 under that, and USA under that. Oh, and on the side of the blade where it says "BUCK", it says 1st Production Run 1 of 500. I've seen it advertised on the net for anywhere from $68 to $90, but it is not in the current Buck Web Page. IT is a very good feeling knife. Does the 1st production run, give it any extra value? It is in the box new. I just love it, cuz it feels so good, but if it's collectable then I don't want to ruin it. Thanks for any help.

Sorry, can't say anything about its value and stuff;
but I would have to agree with you that it feels good in the hand.
Especially its neat safety feature... the double depress positioning button that hinges/unhinges the liner lock system.
Only one thing about it though, I greatly dislike the holes bored into the handles. Sorry to have to say this but IMHO it really spoilt an otherwise great looking folder.
Perhaps that's the one reason why it wasn't too well received by the usual Buck crowd?
Time for a re-tooling???

Thanks for your response. I guess I really hadn't noticed those holes. But now that I have been made aware of them, they are a little homely. I guess they did it to save some weight. It really isn't all that light for its size, it would've been heavier without the holes. I really, really like it. I will wind up in my pocket for carry I'm sure.

Its hard to say if the knife will be worth more because of the "1 of 500" etching. Since the knife was somewhat short lived, I think it will end up being a saught after knife years from now. You can't go wrong, especially at the price you got yours!
Take care,

This one hasn't been posted on in 11 years so I figured I'd bring it back and see if Joe Houser was right about the future of the Buck Taclite knives. Did they indeed end up being saught after a decade later? I will agree you couldn't go wrong at the price point. I also don't mind the skeletenized G10 handles. Mine has held up to 17 years of EDC use, and after a quick pivot screw tightening yesterday it's as good as the day it was given to me. So in hindsight what was the future of the Buck Taclite knife?

Wow..... so very many zombie threads lately!!

In 2015 this new Buck Zombie Thread Slaying Froe will come in handy for the zombie thread apocalypse......lol

Haha that might kind of be my fault. Is it better to beat a dead horse or raise a horse from the dead? I like that Thread Slaying Froe but we're gonna need a lot more of 'em I have a feeling..

DK..... you should staft a new thread about your knife, and post some photos :)

Buck Forum folks love photos ;)

Posted this already but it hasn't exactly gone viral. I really don't think these knives took off but I don't understand why they didn't get more love. G10, ATS-34 blade, liner lock button was different but definitely functional. My photos suck though because I took them with my iPhone. I kind of have a thing for raising threads from the dead...I should change my handle to thread-raiser!

Start that thread over, but here in the Buck forum!
You will generate more interest here..... over in the general forum, they generally are interested in other stuff.....

And yes.... if a thread is more than 9 months old, it is usually considered better to let it die an honorable death, and start a new thead :)
Recently a very old thread was resurrected zombie style, and unfortunately 2 of the people who had posted in it had actually passed away.
And that thread wasn't even as ancient as this one!! 11 year old thread is almost a record.

I'll start that thread over like you said and maybe avoid zombie threads. But 11 years is pretty old for a dead thread. Google just has a way of finding them!

dk, I have been commenting to a few others who have brought back really old threads in their totality. So, I must comment to you.

There is nothing wrong in bringing forward some info, copied or otherwise, providing a link to the original and starting a new thread asking your questions. Your 'Zombie' is only one forum page so not too bad there. But, that is the main problem with Zombies if they are multiple pages. Folks have to read thru to the end to find that someone is making a comment or question that could have been asked in a new thread beginning. We here in Buck Land are trying to have quality postings so if anyone wants some old thread questions answered please take the time to write a new thread with quotes or links rather than just tack on a single comment on the end of a multi page large thread. Links back to old threads are always welcome in any thread, as are photos of knives your talking about.

I would say, as Joe Houser does, that if you have a few collectable knives I would not use that one but include it. If you are not a collector you option is to sell it for more than you paid and recycle the funds or just use the heck out of it. I gave one away to my nephew a long time ago and wish I had it back sometimes. Not so much if he has kept it as a keepsake, maybe I'll ask him.
