I needed a knife that was built strong. Had good steel. Was comfortable to carry, and wouldn't put a hurting on my wallet. I have, before today, been carrying expensive knives from CRK, Strider, and MT, but I was thinking that I didn't have anything that I could EDC that was less money, and I could beat on and not worry about. I took a drive to Knifecenter and started my search. Howard at Knifecenter told me that since I liked the Strider SNG, I should try out the Buck/Strider Tarani 882SBT. I was skeptical at first, but as soon as he handed it to me I was sold. First I was surprised with the fit and finish, and that only followed by my happieness with the price. Do any of you guys like this knife? Any long term use reports? I tried searching, but the function seems to be down for me.

The Buck/Striders are all good knives. None have been available long enough for anyone to get a good feel for how long they'll perform but, from what I've seen, they should meet all reasonable expectations.

Don't take this the wrong way... In my thinking, you probably could have saved your money and simply carried any of the other knives you mentioned without worrying about any of them. They're all pretty much built to be used hard and last a very long time. With that said... it's never a bad idea to buy something new to play with.

I use a Buck/Strider fixed blade as my "car" knife. It's safely tucked away in my "in case my car breaks down" kit.

The SBT knife is great and has held up well for me for nearly two years of varied usage. It is an excellent tool. The only longevity problem I had was with losing it and having to replace it  A good tool for law enforcement and practical home/yard/shop applications. I couldn't comment on its use as a field knife over a long period since that is not my occupation. One of its best features is the ability to deploy and use while wearing gloves. Worht it if you don't want to damage your more expensive knives.

i recently baught one, i like some points and dislike other...

I like the shape of the blade, the feeling when in hand, and the sound of the lock (SHLACKKK)...

I dislike:
- i found it a bit too heavy
- In order to have it plain edge, i had to baught the andle in "plastic" instead of G10 (was 10 usd less expensive, but i don't care, i woudl anyway have prefered to have it in G10 :( )
- I found the lock a bit "agressive" and after some use, a bit painfull on the fingers...
- I don't like the "sand-paper" finish they put on the upper part of the blade..

I am not a sharpening specialist, and i found it slightly more difficult to sharpen than my BM in 154cm ...

just my 50 cent ! :)
