I have seen pics of the 889 with ironwood scales and a polished (?) blade but haven't actually handled one. Has anyone here seen one of these with something other than the standard scales they come with? If so, what was your impression? Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Are you sure it's the 889? AS that's the Strider. A military knife. I went back 10 years to find one. DM

I have one and it is ok. I am not a fan of the strider knives as far as usability. They are built like a tank but just not my thing I guess.
I just don't see where it would fit in as far as everyday life. It does fit in the hand nicely though. Just not my cup of tea.

I have an 889 with Taccom handle, but it is not the Tarani. The whole 889 thing is confusing. It is a pretty good solid knife.

There were some made in 2016. I think that last production was 2004. Some had ATS-34 blades and some 420HC

I would like to get one of the ironwood scaled ones.

I had to search back 10 years in the catalogs to find them. To 2007 was the first year I found them. DM

The date on the end of the box on mine is July 2006 serial number 0313. Model #889-LE-O.
The COA says the blade steel is 420HC.

There is also a Build out Ironwood version without the polished blade.
