Buck Tempest lock

The saftey lock on my Tempest is supposed to keep tight against the flipper on my AO, but its loose and doesn't stay in place. What would be the best way to either tighten it so it stays where its supposed to, or remove it.

I'm a bit hesitant to open the knife since I have no experience with knife maintenance and don't know if I'd be able to get the springs back into place. I tried stupidly placing something into the slot and making enough space for the safety to fall out, but it didn't work and i was afraid to bend the frame.

Anybody have experience or ideas on how to fix this?

I have a couple of Tempests and on one of them I had the same issue with the safety.

Tightened the pivot screw very slightly; doing so brought the handle scales closer together
just enough to tighten the safety as well.

Hi LZB,

Before you try rf2's gig. Take a look at all the screw's in the handle. What you are describing has happened to my Tempest and I found the screw at the bottom of the handle was loose....thus resulting in the safety flipper to be very loose.

The very early models of ASAP knives had this issue. Mine was just worn, I sent it to Buck and had a new replacement in 2 weeks. Good luck.
