I just received one yesterday, a steel finish skeleton handle version with a 154CM blade per the documentation. A very nice looking and functioning knife that seems to be quite scarce. I found mine via a web search at Jays Knives. Is it discontinued? I like the all stainless steel construction and nice visible parts machining. Overall a very nice knife even though the liner lock is not my favorite blade locking arrangement.

Blade opening is solid with a strong spring used in the spring assist mechanism and lockup is very solid. Overall I am impressed with this Tempest. A unique looking skeleton handle spring assist folder.

The last time they were listed was in Buck's 2009 catalog. I believe that the one with the 154CM blade was a Special Projects or Limited Edition. I'll have to poke around in my notes and literature to find out for sure.

Correction. The one with a mirror polished blade of 154CM was a buildout. They were offered in the catalog with a standard, unpolished 154CM blade in 2006, 07 and 08.

I like the Tempest alot. It is hard to find the 296 with the upgraded steel. The 420hc is pretty available. The Rush(smaller version) is still in product line but too small for me. My daughter has one and all I found out from it is how easy I can cut myself:o

My skeleton and carbon fiber inlay(compliments of a friend----thanks Dave:) )

Mine has the mirror finish 154CM blade and stainless steel frame. IMO much better than the colored frames. Per our phone conversation Jay's still does have a blue handled one and per my web search Cabelas has a unskeletonized version Tempest in stock. The smaller version, the Rush, is available and Amazon lists blue and platinum finish versions as available.
