NOT THE MAGNUM! Which would be your choice for carrying & using?
This would be for light & heavy use!
Thanks,
jim

Shane,
Thank you! It's the THUNDERHAWK!I NEED INFO PRO & CON!If anyone
can help it would be appreciated!HAVEN'T CARRIED A BUCK SINCE 63! A person has offered a trade,so I'm a little out of my area of expertise here!I have the Buck Ti!!

I would trade the Buck for the Thunder Hawke in a second, provided the Thunder Hawke was in new, or like-new condition. The TOPS folders lock-up very solidly and are very sturdy. Both can handle the "light" chores you mention, but I would choose TOPS for the heavy-duty stuff. Nothing against the Buck - I simply believe that TOPS is stronger.

Shane,
OBVIOUSLY,you have carried or used one! So little more info, liner lock, any failure over time?? What didn't you like??dO YOU PREFER THIS OVER THE Magnum OR is it diff. tools for diff. tasks!!

Aside from a few problems with my #303, I am pleased with mine.
The action is smooth, the lockup is rock solid, and I like the looks of the folders.
I spine slammed my #303 and it did not budge, the liner lock still released easily, and there was no damage at all in any way.

The #303 feels great in the hand, and is without doubt a very sturdy knife. The edge was a bit thick on mine, so cutting performance suffered accordingly, but you can either thin it out a bit or just get used to cutting taking a bit more effort.

I normally do not spine slam my knives, but I got a bit pissed and did it...I do not think spine slamming is a good indicator of a knife's quality or reliability, and most probably does some damage or decreases reliability in a way that I could not see or determine.

So, while I did have some problems with mine, that I won't bother to detail here, I do not think my experience was the norm as far as QC goes.

I have owned, used and ocassionally abused my 303 Thunder Hawke for about a year now. Mikemck's comments echo my own. It is a nice solid knife. I do prefer my more recently aquired 747 Magnum however. It is just as solid, but it seems to fit my hand a little better - not that the Thunder Hawke is uncomfortable. The Thunder Hawk has a thinner blade profile, making it slightly more suitable for finer, more precise cutting chores. The Magnum is a very thick blade, and will not slice tomatoes with razor blade thinness, but that is not what this knife was designed for. It is meant for heavy duty, no-nonsense cutting power and is about the next best thing to a fixed blade I have seen/used in a folder.

You can't go wrong with either, so the only obvious answer is to get them both!

I heard the buck Ti is being discontinued, might be harder to find if you change your mind.

And it has always been one of my favorites. You can even get Buck to swap out the standard blade and have a BG-42 one on there. Put a one-arm bandit on it, and that will help. And since its a lockback, you know its going to be strong.
