Today I got to check out the Buck Knives facility, escorted by Jeff Hubbard himself. He took me through most of the different departments, showing how 110s are assembled, how blades are blanked and ground, finger groove station and a room filled with buffing wheels that take all the scratches out of the knives after assembly. Jeff was in a bit of a hurry as there was a meeting he had to attend at lunchtime, so he says we didn't see everything, but I am still very impressed. You guys would love to see the sheets of BG42, like sheets of plywood, with the laser cut outlines of the signature model in them. Oh, Bald1 and Kodiak, you guys would have sighed deeply as Jeff brings me to a tray full of BG42 532s, all assembled and ready to go to AG Russell. I briefly thought about grabbing the whole tray and running for it, but I probably would have never been able to find my way out anyhow!!(just KIDDING here Jeff
) Also, got to meet Paul Bos, of whom I've been reading and hearing of for years, the master heat-treater for Buck and so many knife makers. Finally Jeff showed me his office. Man, there were proto-types all over the place, I tried to get him to leave me alone in there for a few minutes, but I think he saw that gleam in my eye and knew I was lusting after the "trout" pattern; he wisely stayed close by.
He finally managed to pry my fingers off the door jamb and with the security guards help tossed me into the parking lot. I managed to make my way back to the customer service office tho, and bought a couple of knives.
Way cool, thanks, Jeff, I had a blast!!
