I am looking for any information on a knife I recently traded for.

It is a Buck #311 Trapper, that has a metal plaque on the side that says "Winchester".

The main blade tang says:

Buck
311
u.s.a.

The story I was told was that in the early 80's, Winchester (Olin U.S.A.) comissioned these knives as gifts for company employees. They were never available to the general public to buy, and I got it from a relative who got it in the early 80's from his father-in-law, who was a long time Olin U.S.A. employee and was given this knife buy the company.

Does anyone know anything about this knife such as how many were made?

Thanks

Hello Confederate and welcome to the forums!
I eagerly await any info anybody might have of the specifics of this run. I'll bet Vern has the answer.

Take care,

A really wonderful guy by the name of Jerry Lambert, a Winchester rep, was instrumental in putting this deal together, and you got the story pretty much straight. I believe there were 1000 ordered and something less than that delivered, maybe 900 or so. This is a very desirable knife because you have TWO groups of collectors after them: the Winchester guys and the Buck collectors. Personally, I think it is a $100 knife. Sales don't bear that out but I am firm in my appraisal.
