If the scales are the rubberized, black ones I'd use it and see how I liked it. Mine has good grip when wet, Ilike that. If not there are several craftsmen that could replace them with your choice of material.

Anyway, I got my blade in today. Woot. I went at the handle right away. If I blow it, I’ll look for a pro. So far I stippled it and put one coat of stain on.
