Just thought that I would share my weekend knife experience. I have posted before that I do not abuse my knives... well at least I didn't before this weekend. The short story... I was 7 hours from home dropping my kid off at school . He rented a house with some other college buddies. The closet needed a rack, or dowel or rod, whatever its called. So I measured (I thought) and got one cut at the nearest Home Deport (45 minutes away). You guessed it too long. The only tools available were a hammer and my Buck Vantage Force with a black blade.

Ten minutes later, an inch shorter rod, and one impressed Buck owner! I used the knife and hammer to baton my way around the rod until a clean cut was made! The coating on the blade didn't even get scratched! Still shaving sharp! I have other knives in 154CM, ATS-34, S30V and some 8CR13 stuff and I would have expected this from the S30V and maybe the 154CM but not 420HC. Oh and no blade play at all. When I decided to cut the rod, I figured I was going to ruin the knife, but I was just at the point that I needed to get that job done right then and there. I was so flustered and frustrated at the time that it hadn't even dawned on me that I had a Leatherman Wave in the car. But if I had used the saw blade on that, I probably would have just gotten angry at all the work I caused myself! Anyway I just wanted to share my little story about my little Buck knife that could :)

My Buck Vantage was ok. Liked the steel, wasn't a huge fan of the knife. Big improvement over 8CR13MOV.

The last Buck I owned with a 420 blade was the Bucklite version of the 110. The first time I used it was to slice through the side of a Dr. Pepper can. By the time I got 2/3 of the way around the blade was so dull it wouldn't finish the job.

carrying one of my vantages today with 420hc, and i like the steel, but i don't find it has any massive advantage over properly done 8cr13mov......
