Buck Vantage Avid Linerlock Issue

Just received my Vantage Avid yesterday, and was very impressed with it - except for one thing, the liner lock. It engaged at about half way over the blade out of the box, and quickly adjusted to the position in the photos after some opening and shutting.

I live in New Zealand, so sending it in for maintenance isn't really an option.

Do any of you know if this over - engagement will cause the knife to have blade play in the future? Or even if there is a way I can fix this problem myself with a little tinkering.

Thanks

UPDATE:

I de-barked a small stick and now there is some up and down blade play as the liner lock is fully extended.

that is unfortunate, you could try taking the knife apart and reassembling it. the real problem with this design is the hidden stop pin combined with a little flex in thr pivot. maybe the first thing to try is tighting the pivot screw just a bit, it could just be a little loose. you need a torx # 6. BTW, a # 6 will be the only size you'll need for the whole knife.

Thanks, was going to go torx hunting in the morning :) The pivot is really tight, its hard to open the knife. I wonder of taking off the handles and liners, then building up the area where the stop pin actually stops with brass or something. It would be a real shame for this knife to not function as it should.
