Buck Vantage Avid question

I picked up a Buck knife at a pawn shop a couple of days ago. It appears to be a Vantage Avid, the one with the Charcoal Dymondwood handles. However, the only marking on the knife is the B in an anvil, on the pocket clip. No markings on the blade and no blue shield in the handle. I don't think any markings have been removed, it looks like it never had any. Anyone else seen one like this? Did the early ones come without shields?

How about some pics.......

This sounds like a prototype/sample or a "homer" (one somone walked out with). Is there a pocket for the logo shield in the handle? An actual production item would normaly have the blade markings and the shield in the handle. It is not impossible that one got out without laser marking the blade, but not likely without the shield (unles it fell out...). It is likely a sample or homer.

There is no spot in the handle where the shield could have fallen out. It looks like it never had one.

I would be inclined to believe the "homer" theory. The knife came from a pawn shop in Spokane Valley, which is not too far from Post Falls.
