I have the select Vantage, large. I had the small in hand, and it was just to small. The large is really just medium IMO.
Now, with regards to the design, I love it. Great flipper, steel is decent, lockup solid, and fun to play with. This was my first Buck, and I love any company with a guarantee like theirs.
I don't have the Avid version, but I do have a small Vantage Pro (same design and size, just different blade and handle materials). It's a good, solid-feeling small knife. It's a 3-finger grip for me. The flipper works okay, but not nearly as smoothly as the unassisted Kershaws (eg. Skyline, Zing) or some CRKT flippers (eg. M16, M21). With the right flipping motion, you can get the blade open and locked without adding wrist movement. The thumb notch works okay as well. It doesn't flick open like with Spydercos, but it is comfortable for a controlled opening. It does not open easily using the thumb hole while wearing gloves.
