Buck Vantage Factory Error

I just got a brand new Buck Vantage Pro from a forum member who bought it new from The Cutlery Shoppe. It's a July 09 produced knife according to the box and has the typical G10 handles ect. BUT has a 13C26 blade marked "346". I know the guy I bought it from didn't swap the blade and I'm sure Cutlery Shoppe didn't do it, so I'm guessing this is a factory screw up. I actually prefer the 13C26 steel, but have half a mind to send it back to Buck to get the "correct" blade in there while the knife is still new in the box just so down the road if I ever had to send the knife in for warranty Buck wouldn't think it is some sort of Frankenstein. What would you guys do? Will Buck fix this for me? Your thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Maybe you could get a letter from Buck that it was a factory error?

To me that would be preferable and would make it a collectible.

Then you have to put that one in the safe and buy a new knife.

Buck wins, you win.......it's a win-win!!!

:)

Maybe it's a "Bond Arms" (or some other special project) that didn't get marked as such?

I would keep it myself. If you are already the second owner anyway... If I got it direct from a dealer that way I would get it right. IF you were to send it back I would think Buck would take care of you though!

Athough i havent used my avid model much to yet to actually "prefer" the 13C26 over S30V!!! Why do you like the Sandvik better?
I have considered swapping mine, but I have to use it more before deciding.

I just like the Sandvik stuff because it takes a super sharp edge, and holds it longer than 420HC, but isn't as hard to sharpen back up as S30V is. I know, S30V holds an edge longer and all, but I've got a bunch of Kershaws and just like the balance of edge holding/easy sharpening that Sandvik offers. I don't hate 420HC either, Buck does good work with it.

Thank you, good information to keep in mind!!! I gotta use mine more!

I bought a couple from the cutlery shoppe last summer and one of mine was that way. I sent it back and he replaced it with the right one. He checked the unsold boxes and found a couple more that were like that. He said they all came in the same shipment. He also told me one other person had notified him that they got one like that also. Apparently everyone that got one didn't ask for a replacement.

A+ Mater! You solved the mystery, thank a bunch. Heck I think I might just put this knife to use. I'll save the box with the Cutlery Shoppe sticker and if I ever need some warranty work I'll just tell Buck what the deal is with the odd blade steel on this one. :D
