I just got my 6th Buck Vantage in the mail today, a small Paperstone version. This is the only one of the group that came with a sticker on the box warning of a chemical component that is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects.

Anyone know what part of the knife the warning refers to? I'm assuming something in the paperstone material, which is supposed to contain 100% post-consumer recycled material.

Anyone know anything about it, what the dangerous material is, and if it's of any real concern?

This is exactly why I stopped eating Buck knives. You think they are organic, but noooooo.

I would think if you ingested the knife blade and/or the washers, that cancer would be the least of your troubles.

Having spent a lot of time in California, I think just living there is hazardous to your health, Mental and physical. :o

No concern unless you plan on grinding it in an unventilated room with no safety gear on. Regular use should not be an issue for anyone and is probably just another one of those Cali things like how taking the pistol grip off a rifle makes it less capable of being a weapon.

I have it on good authority that living in California causes cancer.

While I am not living in California right now, I am a science graduate of the University of Califorinia at Berkeley (right on!) and have California teacher certification for Biology and Chemistry. I think your main concern should be cleaning the knife of dirt, blood or other material using a solution containg the deadly substance "dihydrogen monoxide".

Any science teacher will tell you that dihydrogen monoxide (chemical formula HOH) is hazardous and must be used carefully. Several sites on the Internet provide information about the dangers of "dihydrogen monoxide".

I have indeed heard of this HOH substance. :D

Seriously, if you go to CA, they seem to have these warning labels on EVERYTHING. Yes, some day, we will all die. Because of something.

Maybe somebody should tell them that...
