So, I've seen some beautiful scales on the various Vantage models from the past, but they're nearly impossible to find now days (Avid with Ironwood is all I can find).

Is there going to be a special run of these in a prettier wood anytime soon? Are they truly impossible to find in the older nicer wood finishes?

I EDC a Vantage Pro with Avid (dymondwood) scales. I agree.. some limited edition options would be fantastic.

Heck, I'd be down for any limited edition scales =).

Buck does make the Vantage for other companies as an exclusive. Those companies are Bond Arms, with a redwood scaled Avid and a Black Ash scaled Avid. Also there is an exclusive for Hornady ammunition with redwood and a black coated blade with the Hornady logo on the blade. Other than that Yellow horse makes customs of the Vantage. I did contact Jarheadz28 (Jered) who is a member here and does custom knife work. He made me a sick set of Carbon fiber scales for a large Vantage. Those are all that I know. I know that Buck doesnt make any limited edition models...

I'd be interested in wood scales, too. Given what I perceive as I large interest in Vantages on this site, I would hope that some scale-maker would take it on.

Appreciate the info man. So that CherryWood Avid was done for a specific company huh? I remember the Bond Arms checkered-fancy scale, but other than those two, I just saw pictures and had no idea what those models were or where they came from.

So - were those company-specific models just done in limited runs or can I still buy them new anywhere?

I've got a set of Ironwood scales picked out for a Large Vantage that I will eventually get to and be happy to share photos

An Avid with Ironwood scales? I've never see that but I'd give alot for one.

The Cherry Dymondwood ones in the picture below were sold on Buck's web specials page sometime ago. They aren't buildouts, at least they don't have a buildout number on the box. I have no idea who they were made for originaly and I couldn't find them in the special projects list. Maybe they scales were destined for the Hornaday model and they decided to build a few and give them their own stock number.

I'd suspect that Buck has replacement scales in stock for warranty purposes if for no other reason. I'd give them a call and ask if they do and if you could buy a set.

I didn't think any other Natural wood would hold up (having thin spots) as Ironwood. I'm pretty happy it turned out nice. :)
