Buck Vantage Pro Issue

I'm new in this forum, but I really need some help. I'm from Czech Republic (Central Europe) and I have recently bought Buck Vantage Pro via Internet. I have read, that issue with uncentered blade is solved and quality control is much better now. On the box is date 28.2.2011, so I was hoping in perfect condition of my new knife, but blade is extremely uncentered, which mean that it is touching the handle when closed. So the knife is unuseable. And now the problem - sending the knife to Buck Company for repair is absurdly expensive (paying half of the price of knife for sending it for repair, while it is completely new out of box... really, shame on your Quality Control Center, how could be such a thing even possible? :grumpy: ), so I'm kind of upset on this company and I really don't know how to center the blade myself... Well, I hope that on subforum of this company I could get good advice what to do now (and I also wanted to express my opinion about it). Is there for example some branch of BuckKnives somewhere in Europe? Or may I try to do something with pivot? Which imbus key I should use on the screw, or which tool should be used for those screws? Becouse imbus key has hexagon shape, but in those screws is something like star...
Anyway, this knife is absolutely wonderful, and I would love it. With the little exception, that this lazy and careless assemblage totaly kill it. In the other hand it is really good knife. Perfect materials, incredible ergonomy... I really hope that someone here will give me some advise how to simply fix it and be another satisfied Buck Knives Company customer...

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I'm not familiar with the knife myself, but we'll get someone here soon who is. That star-shaped tool you need is probably a Torx driver, pretty common over here. We just need to find what size Torx.

thanks for welcoming and pretty fast reply
I searched my workshop before posting it, and I had nothing like that, but due to pictures on internet, Torx driver seems right. I'm gonna ask friend of mine, who is mechanic and he should have it :D thanks once again ;)
I would like to apologise, if there is another thread with similar content from me, becouse my internet crashed when I was sending this one, and I thought it is completely lost :o

Im pretty sure the size your need is a Torx 6, refered to as a T06, what you are going to do is hold the knife in your hand closed and insert your torx driver into the pivot bolt. As you tighten and loosen the pivot bolt you will see the blade move from one liner to the other, you need to dial it into the center, after a few weeks and as you work the knife in you may need to re-adjust, its that simple. We are talking about a 5-10 degree adjustment, it will be very minor but will make all the difference in the world. If the knife seems a little stiff after you adjust it just put a drop of oil in the pivot and open and close it a few hundred times, it will work in.

Thanks a lot ;) that was all I wanted to know  when I get this torx (during next fourteen days, when I see that friend of mine) , I'll post how it worked :)

An off center blade would not render the knife unusable, it's just annoying. If you do find the right Torx driver to adjust your pivot tightening it down should shift it back towards the center. The only annoying thing then is it can be more difficult to open.

It is not only annoying, while closing, blade is hitting the handle, which is in return scratching the blade. It is not such a problem, but if I dont want to have the blade full of scratches, I simply can not use it until I fix it :)

Sorry, I know this is a bit of a zombie thread but I just had to share my joy with getting my new Vantage select's blade centered. Mine wasn't touching the liner but it still bothered me that it wasn't perfect, so after reading all the advice on BF's this is the method I used: with the blade open I bent the knife over my knee in the direction of the liner that the blade was closest to in the closed position. Worked perfectly and I didn't use much force. Seems counter intuitive but after seeing that diagram which shows how realigning the position of the scales relative to each other changes the angle of the pivot, and in turn moves the resting position of the blade tip, it makes sense. Can't remember which member suggested this quick but effective fix, but I'm very grateful.
