Buck Vantage problem

My dad has a Buck Vantage knife which is assisted opening tip up carry. Today it came open inside his pocket as he pulled it out and cut his shorts. Does anyone have any ideas on how to delay (gum up) the action so it doesn't open so easily? The easy open is nice except in cases like this.
