I bought my first Vantage last night. I was shopping for groceries at Wal Mart, and before I did so, I made it over to sporting goods. As I briefly looked at the knife section, I noted a Vantage Avid for $34.99. I couldn't believe my eyes. A Vantage at Wal Mart. As I looked closer, they had the Vantage Select there as well. It was marked $19.99.
I had the lady behind the counter pull them out for comparison. They had two Selects, and two Avids. For price purposes, I decided on the Select. I mean, $20.00 for a great knife, well, I just couldn't resist. I could test one cheaply and decide about the Pro later. All four were near perfect. The liners hit well over to the left on all of them.
Of the two Selects, one was slightly off center, and the other perfect. I selected the one that was perfect. As the lady was putting them up, guess what, she DROPPED
the one I just decided on about 5' onto the tile floor. I watched this 4' drop in horror, as she dropped the one I wanted and there were only two total. Obviously I wanted to inspect it, as I know I chipped the handle on two of my Mini Griptillians by doing dropping them on various occasions. A similar drop onto a ceramic tile floor chipped a giant chunck out of my yellow Mini Grip and a chipped a small chunck out of my black Minigrip after dropping it off my knee, sitting fishing, about 1.5 feet onto a rock. You could imagine what I was expecting. Watching her drop it was like watching someone ding your new car door, or watching someone drag their fingers across a chalk board.
As I inspected it to decide which one I now wanted, guess what, it did not have a single scratch or blemish. Unbelievable. I looked it over multiple times in disbelief. After I was 100% comfortable that is wasn't hurt in the least, I took the one she dropped, bought it and headed out. As I've looked it over repeatedly, there is not a single blemish, and it's a far greater knife than a $20.00 knife. I've seen $50.00 to $100.00 knives with more imperfections. This one is perfect. The lines and the liners perfectly fit in the frame.
Wow Buck. Great job on a great knife. For those of you who want to know what it feels like, it kind of feels like a thinner, lighter Buck 112 Ranger, in terms of the handle. The blade is slightly longer.
Buck, you hit a home run with this knife. I mean the counter lady dropped it on a tile floor and it didn't even scratch it.
Thanks!
