Just wondering how the smaller ones compare

I'm toying with getting either a Buck 501, a Schrade 5OT or Schrade LB5

They seem similar in size and utility but what about lock up, blade play and overall quality

I'm thinking the original USA made stuff not the copies

Does anyone own all three and have a comparison pic?

I own both, look at the spring of the older Schrade USA built knives - you want to buy the earlier one piece, not the last USA design (two pieces of steel layered). The two piece break more easily and cannot be fixed unless you have decent skills in fabrication (check out Dale Vincent - ORVET - posts on AAPK concerning this). If you buy the Buck you still get service in the unlikely case their one piece design breaks. As for use, the old Schrade USA are nice medium and small lockbacks - I have most of the Schrade USA designs and most of the Buck designs and like them all. OH

Of the knives your mentioned, I only have the Buck 501. As Old Hunter Old Hunter said; Buck Knives is still around and can service any knife from them but there is no service on any USA built Schrade.

I still grab up Schrade USA knives when I can at decent prices even though I know no service will be available. Considering the often spirited competition I run into I'm not the only one that feels that way. The good ones are in more demand now then when Schrade USA was still making them or so it can seem when I'm bidding. Really nice Gerbers and nowadays the better Queens can see that kind of demand too.

For me the Buck Warranty is more about them standing by their product than actually using it. Being in the UK the price to post it off and get it back would likely be greater than the value of the knife
