I just bought a Buck whittler pocket knife on ebay, and it has the Buck box and paperwork, yet is stamped on the blade made in china. didnt know buck made anything outside USA. did I get ripped?

Some are made in China.......a model number or even better a photo, would be useful..

300

+1, I would love to see a picture and model number, while Buck did do a "whittler" pattern that was USA made, I have not seen one in the imported line???

I don't like any of the china made bucks,I had a couple that were ok but not much for my liking.

I bought some two to three years ago and found them excellent in every way and the equal of any other current slippie and better than some.

I am curious about the China made Whittler also, I have never seen it either. Hmmmmm.....

Is "whittler" the name Buck gave the knife or just what you call the pattern? I also have a few of bucks offshore (China) made knives and although I'd rather they were made in the USA, I can't find any fault with them.

The only Buck "Whittler" (a 310 I believe) I could find is one sold by BassPro shops, but it's made in the USA.

The 310 is the only Whittler pattern I know of from Buck, and it's discontinued accept for these leftover, which often have main blades stamped "309".

Kinda neat "oddities"! :)

I'm betting the OP picked up a China made trio or stockman and is calling it a "whittler".

Me neither, I have quite a few Bantams solid as a rock. I know Buck is now reversing and moving production from China to USA where possible. I don't think their 'USA' policy had anything to do with quality but that is just a guess based on my personal observations.

PS Pm me for a good deal on those Bantams

Depends on how much you spent on it. The imported Buck line is lower priced, and in my opinion, some of the best value for your money. They are just as well made as the domestic ones, and as has already been said, many times they are even better. There's a lot of talk about what steel is used on the imports, and whatever, but trust me. If the name is Buck, it is made to the same standard no matter where it's made. I wouldn't worry too much about what is written on the blade. If it is a Buck, it's all good.

my camera submerged during a recent duck hunt so I am helpless at the moment to send photo. the number is Buck 371 and has a clip, pen, and sheeps foot balde and is 4" long closed. I called it a whittler cause thats how it was listed on ebay

The 371 is the Stockman and is the imported version of the 301 Stockman that's made in the USA. The catalog says that the 301 has 420HC blades and the 371 has 420J2 blades. The difference in steel? I don't know but there are steel experts on the forum that Im sure will chime in on that issue.

Yours has woodgrain handles and the 301 has black plastic handles.

I don't own one, but I've heard that they are very good knives for the money.

For most folks walking around with one in their pocket, barely enough difference to notice in normal use IMO if the HT is good for both.
