Ok. so i have a cherry wood handle buck woodsman, and I noticed a scratch in the handle today. It turns out that the scratch came from the snap on the sheath. When i would put the knife in its sheath and snap it in, the snap would press up against the handle and scratch it. How can i prevent this from getting worse, or from happening in the first place? thank you. its a leather sheath by the way.

I've seen sheaths modified with a piece of felt, glued over the inside face of the snap inside the sheath. I think you can even find some adhesive-backed felt pads at Home Depot/Lowe's and other places (ordinarily used for the bottoms of vases & such, to minimize scratching of furniture). Those might provide a quick solution.

To add to the advice given so far, very smart btw! :) Make sure to clean the back of the snap and surrounding leather with a bit of alcohol before you stick the felt down. Allow some time for it to evaporate. A cotton swab is great for this.

Hope this helps a little.

Small rant, one of my pet peeves is snap backs that aren't covered, it doesn't take that much time and effort to stick a patch of leather to the back when the sheath is being assembled at the factory or shop. Micarta handles are one thing, but wood is so easily buggered up its worth the extra effort to protect it.
