I wonder if anyone on the forum has ever seen any of these knives. These are Chuck Buck signature 102 woodsman knives. They are ATS-34 steel, with Charcoal laminated handles. They are also BOS treated, and come with a parchment style authentification certificate signed by Charles Buck. Each has a serial no., and I have two sets of two, with consectutive nos. Both the handle and the blade are signed. They come in a nice box with a black leather sheath. There were only 100 of these made and sold in a sporting goods store in Ohio. I understand the owner has no. 1 and Mr. Buck has no. 100, or vice versa. I am not a collector but just purchased them for my grandchildren. Does anyone have a guess as to what value would be placed on them for insurance purposes? Here are some pictures.

To me, the "value" is subjective. I would give up a $100 for one.
Personally, I would like 'em better without the etching on the blade and the signature on the handle.
But I don't know Jack...

...You echo my sentiments exactly Goose...The etching and stuff throws me off big time...Lord help me if I ever stray from my stubborn infatuation with folders though...LOL...

Hey Dr. D...
Just think it would be "cleaner" without the etching and handle sig. It's still a cool knife with the steel, the engraved signature, and charcoal handle. I also like the red stripe spacers.

Darryl, we should get our girls together and go fishing. Dave's avatar can stand guard and we'll have Dave clean the fish.

...What a great idea Goose...I'll bring the "Cajun" coffee and some pans and and after Dave fillets the catch we can have a great shore lunch together with the girls... WOO HOO! ! ! ...LOL... :D

hi papad those are pretty nice i had never heard of them before
if you send me one set i will insure your other set for you at no charge :D

Thanks for the replies everyone. That 100 bucks is exactly what I paid for them, Buckaholic, so I guess I didn't do bad. Don't think I would want Buckman for my insurance co. though. Rates are a tiny bit high.

papadb10...
Cool...so if I read the fine print that means I am the winner of one of 'em. I call that a 50/50 prize. The host keeps half and the winner gets the other half. It's in the fine print of your user agreement when you signed on to this sub-forum.
You know I'm kidding, right? Anyway, that is a good find.
If I had two like you do, I would probably gift one for someone in your family that appreciates it or EDC one for casual use.

I have a Woody that I bought and wore it occassionally. It's too small for bar showing...I'm a little guy and need an equalizer to make up for my shortcomings. But it's just right for cutting up those damn fuji apples, pickle jar stabbing at church picnics, and light kitchen work.

You bet Darryl...(BTW, Alfalfa is cool...But I read he got shot or something when he got older)...

We would have to let Dave do a shift change for his guard while we eat (party). His primary guard would need a break by then.

I would even be willing to sport my Woody (Woodsman) for the gig.

Well, I've taken my boxless 102 out and it's just too small...kine like that "Three Bears" story. The 102 is too small and the 120 is too big..for public wear.

Ya know, I'd get laughed outta the reindeer games with the 102 in my freindly crowd. And the 120 gets lots of look from the sheeple and I'm guessing Five-0 would turn an eye or two as well.

MIKE!!!! Any comments on what your thoughts are if you saw someone John Wayne'ing a 120 around town back when you were on the beat????
I figure a 102 wouldn't cause ya as much concern...wood it? Get it? "Wood" it? WOODsman. Ha Ha...I crack myself up.

Coffee time...

Well Goose, you know what they say....size doesn't really matter! :D It's all how you'd be "John Wayning" it. If you have it in a sheath on your belt, the local fuzz would probably not have much of an issue with it unless of course you happen to be in close proximity to some sort of "event." In such case you may have it taken for "safe keeping" until such event has been exhausted or you chose to "exit stage right." Bottom line....one should always use common sense as to when and where to carry. There are two separate issues here. (1) Am I legal? and (2) Is it really a dumb idea to carry this knife in under these circumstances?

Hope this helps! You'll receive my bill for legal services in the mail! :D

It does Mike. Thanks. It is in line with what I mentioned on the Knife Laws gig of this forum...essentially, don't wear one if ya don't wanna be hassled, don't be stupid (break the law by concealing it or drawing it unless deadly force is used against you...even then you're gonna go to jail IMO), and be aware of your surroundings ("exit stage right" is perfect).

I was just wondering about the size and again, you are correct in that I have never been hassled by a LEO for my FB knives and I have the "oppurtunity" to have conversations with them from time to time.

When I was much younger, I ran into like eight parked cars with my dad's F150 pick up. My friends all ditched and I was thrown in the back of an Alameda PD car. Before the limo ride to the station, I was searched...had 3 knives on me...a 110, a 300 series, and a Swiss Army knife. No fixed blade though. The cop asked me why I had so many knives. I told him that each had a utility purpose.

Drove me to the station, tried to call my dad to come pick me up, he wasn't home, officer gave me back my knives and bus fare outta his own pocket. I wasn't cited or arrested...they figured my dad would take care of me  My insurance was cancelled. Ended up riding the bus for months until I could get a new scoot. Oh...memories.

Point is, most cops I have dealt with are cool as long as you are not a smart asrse and are duefully respectful. Emphasis on "most" being that I think they have their own 1%'er Club ;)

Anyway, guessing the 105 or 119 would be a good compromise between the 102 and 120...thread jack.

Thanks again Michael...

I'd like a nickel for the number of times I know of where some idiot was arrested more or less for being "dumb in public." This can manifest itself in a variety of ways with an assortment of trivial laws being violated that, under normal circumstances, would not land ones self in the slammer. However when someone decides to push their luck, the slammer is always there for them. Thereby invoking the "dumb in public" clause.

They made a full series of these knives I believe.
110, 102,103? 105, 118? 119...
There are a few BF members that would know more about these, IF I can recall who originally sold them and had them made I will post it, but cannot recall as of yet!

They were made for Goschinski's Fin, Feather & Fur Outfitters, 652 Rt. #250 East, Ashland, OH 44805. I only got lucky enough to get the 119 for my collection.

Goose, you asked: Any comments on what your thoughts are if you saw someone John Wayne'ing a 120 around town back when you were on the beat???? Back in the late 70's, we had a guy in town that walked everywhere, with a Western rig and a long barrelled .45. In Virginia, you can carry...as long as it's not concealed.

papadb10,
Very nice gift for the grandchildren. Remember though, you have to actually give them the things or it doesn't count. :)

Thanks Scott,
They had several models available, right?

If memory serves me, I think the 102 was the only one made in ats-34. All the others were made with 420 stainless. I saw some of the others but only purchased the 102's because of the ats-34. I have a couple of the Rush knives and the steel holds an edge great. Always liked the size and shape of the 102's for deer dressing (great for the coring operation), but had a hard time keeping them sharp.
