I had never seen one of those . Thanks ITE for posting your photo . You guys in Southern Cal. find lots of jewels . DM

Looks good. I looked threw some old catalogs but could not find any info on the holder. Do you have many of the "Workman" items? I recently got a 110 Workman.

The Longbow, thanks for trying to find out info on it... This is the only thing that I have with workman on it, Like this.... I do have a knife that has workman on it, but I can't remember what model it is... I will after look at some old pics....
I think I saw a pic of a tool belt that had workman on it in some old Buck ad I have some where.... ITE

DM, this is the first one I ever seen... I do love the swap meets out here in San Diego... I think We just get lucky, some times... ...

I remember that tool belt . I have a 110 Workman as well . But I've seen the same name on a 112 . Several others Buck knives had "Work-Man" etched on them, the 811BK, 811NI, 812BK, 812NI, 813BK and 813NI . The NI's were the serrated blades . DM

I know they made a Bucklite workman... I guess there's a lot of workman knives out there.... ITE

The Work-Man series was made specifically with hardware stores in mind . But they didn't go over well and the next year it was dropped . DM

Dave, the Workmans were made for more than one year. You have me lost on the serrated blade numbers. The 811, 812 and 813 didn't have serrated blades. The 810 TLC knife did have a serrated blade as did the later 820.
I used to have one of the Workman tool pouches, wish i still did. The big local department store used to caryy the Workman line way back when.

FYI

The Buck Workman series showed up in the 1991 dealers catalog. In 1991-1996 the Workman series was in the dealer catalog and on the price list. In 1997 the Workman series was no longer in the dealers catalog, However, were still in the 1997 price list.

Spike, I got those numbers right off the first catalog showing that Work-Man series in 1992 . All those models could be purchased with serrated blades . It even shows them in the picture . Joe H. told me they were soon dropped . He could have meant the etching on the blades as I didn't question him further . I bought one of the 812's this year at a knife show a 1993 model and it did not have the "Buck Work-Man" etching on the blade . Perhaps you can open the catalogs in the BCCI web-site . The one I got the information from is a hard copy fold out catalog from Buck as I cannot open those in the web-site . DM

Hi DM,

Can you post a scan or a photo of your 1992 catalog showing the Workman series? As stated above the 92 dealers catalog on the BCCI site has no workman series in it, although they are listed on the 92 price list.

Is your catalog a mid-year release catalog or a counter top flyer perhaps?

JB, I cannot ! My camera takes good photos of people not so on close ups requiring detail on knives, print, ect. . I have atleast 3 of these fold out brochures/ catalogs, one is dated 12-89 and mentions the Work-Man series and Hardware Division of Buck Knives but shows no knives . Another, dated 4-92 advertises the Work-Man and shows all the knives . Another, shows no date but states the Mentor (470BK) as NEW and the Crosslock as winning the 1994 Knife of the Year Award which should help to date it . Then advertises the Work-Man but only shows the scissors and no knives . So, perhaps mid 94 . I could make some copies and mail them to you then you'll have it for your records . Russ D. was nice enough to send these to me sometime back . DM

This points out that everythings not in those catalogs available in the BCCI web-site .
These brochuers fold out large 25.5"X11" and show every knife Buck made at that time .

Of the 12 800 series Workmans that i have the earliest date stamp is 1988. That seems about right with the year i got my first one but could have sworn it was 1987. The BCCI web site starts to shows them in the 1988 catalog .The were called the Guildmaster series. All the ones i have are etched Workman with the exception of the one 1988 811 that has no etching.
I am sorry for my ignorance as i did not know they ever came with a serrated blade option. Now i have to put more knives on my I must have it list. Thanks guys, I love talking about Workmans

No worries Mate . I didn't know much about them until I got these brochures . Heck, I still don't . DM

So Spike,

You are saying that the 811, 812, 813 that were sold as the Guide Master series knives from 1988 - 1990 were absorbed into the Workman series in 1991 - 1997. Did you say that the Guide Master knives were etched with Workman in those early years?

It would be nice if those flyers were also scanned into the BCCI data for reference.

I do not really know, my 88s are etched workman.I was just over at Bcci and the catalogs show them in 88 and 89 as Guild Master Series. The 91 catalog has a small section of Workmans, it shows three knives and a toolbelt. There was a discussion here before about how they were marketed towards hardware store and department store(when they used to have real tool sections), so there might have been a separate catalog or brochure for them. The BCCI catalogs are great reference , but as it was already said sometimes thins are missing.

I'm sure its hard to get all the info. in that site . But thats what we discuss a lot here, is when this model came out and when it was discontinued . So, accuracy helps in this area . DM
