How many here carry an x-tract for an edc? I love mine! I just recently saw an x-tract with an LED! I used to carry it ED but decided to just carry it when i wanted pliers possibly but mainly a blade. It fits on my belt well and hidden.

I found it really hard to warm up to. Every time I am in my fav knife store I play with one - but I cannot bring myself to buy it.

That being said - apparently it is one of the most intuitive tools on the market. I am told that there have been timed competitions at knife shows - Xtract vs. a conventional multi-tool. Contestants are asked to perform a set of predetermined tasks. The Xtract always wins.

The pliers seem weak compared to a full size multi tool, so I am inclined to use either an SAK or the full size multi tool.

If you have any pics or review specifics please post - I haven't written this one off yet!

Ok. Well first off i'll start with the sheath. It's pretty tough and easy to open. I usually keep it horizontal between my front left pocket and button. It's easy to access there. The pliers aren't as weak as you think and seeing the little spring out in the open made me skeptical in the beginning also. It hasnt gotten damaged or really shown any weakness in my use of the tool. I've cut wire, fishing line and paper with the wire cutters. The pliers aren't meant to overtake a full sized tool like a leatherman or swisstool but they can do quite a few tasks. They just slip on larger bolts or something that needs to be cranked down because of their obvious size which means you can't get the leverage to hold them down tight like on a long pair of pliers. Some people use their thumb to squeeze them, i flip them over and use my index and middle finger to squeeze, it hurts less and i get a better grip. The knife is killer, sharp tip, sharp blade and strong. It's made of the same steel as the 110, 420HC. It hasn't lost it's edge yet and i've used it a lot. The tip is strong too. The serrations are wicked and work wonders, but i've caught myself a few times with them. My fault but you can't disengage the linerlock close to the pivot, or you will catch yourself. The screwdrivers are the coolest part. I've used the phillips to do the screws on little kids toys as well as decking screws. Very versatile screwdriver. I feel that the flathead can be trimmed down a bit to fit more screws, the smallest screw it will fit are some outlet cover screws, if lucky. It will never chip though! The can opener works good and i've even used it as a bottle opener in a pinch. I love the way the pliers deploy, and the one handed opening knife is smooth, they put brass washers in. The screwdrivers lock into place and will not move on you. If you decide to get one, get the one with the LED, added coolness and although not a dedicated light, i'm sure it will come out a lot. I carry mine in place of my swisstool or swiss army knife when going out to public places or parties, it's hidden out of sight but very useful. I don't feel underpowered with it and i carry a swisstool at other times. That says something!

I also saw an "essentials" today with scissors and lacks a can opener and i don't remember if it has the light.

Hi Suzuki,

The Buck X-Tract Essential does not have an LED. Still a very cool tool.

Best - Joe
