The wife and I were doing some fishing on the bay a few days ago when we caught this little Buck 709. Nice little knife with some wow factor when you pull it out of the box. Buck's don't get much play here but I am sure I am not the only one that likes them.
This will be a nice addition to my ever growing pen knife collection but it won't be a safe queen. I will drop it in my pocket very soon.

Thats a very nice little pen knife, and I'd carry the heck out of it.

I've been a fan of Buck knives since 1967, and they have given me great service. I've used a 301 stockman, 102 woodsman, and a 303 cadet. It was the 303 cadet that I picked for my one year experiment.

Great lines in that little knife. The swedges are sweet!

What are swedges Mr. Hampton I have heard the term before but never caught on to what it means.
Jackknife the 102 is my favorite fixed blade. My Grandad carried a 307 until a year or so before his death. It was replaced by a Buck that I rember being very much like my 709 but I rember it being bigger. I was 13 when he passed. So either Buck made a larger pen knife in the 700 series or he finished his days with a 709 in his pocket.
If anyone could answer that question for me I would be grateful.

The 700 series was my favorite of Buck's slipjoint offerings. Very solid, but rounded and flattened enough to ride comfortably in pocket. Great buy!

With that scale shield it is not older than 1986. That shield type ran 86-89. Two larger versions 701, 703 both 3blade stockman. Some smaller also. Some of these are rare....These are not my exact area of Bucks. Go to Buck forum, under manufacturers heading, and ask your question and you will hear from someone who may even be able to tell you the name of the person at the factory who polished it out. (Just kidding, but then again you never know ) Swedges are the 'facets' usually forged or struck on the blade, sometimes ground. Usually on the top spine or even running out toward tip..

300Bucks.

I carried one of these for a few years while working in an office environment. Great little knife.

Hey, 300Bucks, didn't they also make a single blade in the 700 line?

I like Bucks, they're good knives. Not as good looking as some others, but a quality, workmanlike blade.

I've only owned one Buck slipjoint, the 373 medium stockman. It's similar to the Cadet, but it's made in China and has wood scales. I got it nice and sharp with the edge I wanted when I noticed that my dad kept asking me to borrow a knife. I gave him the little Buck. It's too bad he lost it, I really liked that knife. As a result I no longer give away any slipjoints I like, if someone needs a knife I'll give them a SAK.

I believe so on the single...I am getting my info. from Buck Collectors Club website, where members of club can look at old catalogs and old price lists....but don't look at the prices it will just give you a case of the 'I wish I would have's'.......300$s
