I am trying to find out as much as I can (up to a point) about the knives with the BuckCote finish and edge. I have googled through bladeforums and read much of what has been said about it. I would really appreciate hearing from people who have used it. I am wondering about how well it holds an edge, how hard it is to sharpen, and how durable is it (heard it is prone to chipping/flaking).

Those came out in 1998 or 99 and were discontinued shortly after. One thing people didn't
like was sending them back to Buck for sharpening.I think theres something on the history of them on the Buck collectors site.I used one just to cut paper and that was it.Perhaps someone will be along w/ more info..DM

I had a grey buckcote 110 with nickel bolsters,it was one wicked cutter, used it for a long time, maybe 3 deer seasons befor the edge was wasted, sharpened up ok but not like the factory edge.coating lasted a very long time ,but did eventually wear off to the point buck replaced the blade with a bg-42 blade. After that it was stolen .great knife!

Thank you Razorblades. That tells me enough and gives some clue as to why Buck discontinued that coating and went with a high grade steel.DM
